Skateboard collecting? UPDATE: All 8 boards are here...with pics
mgb:
It seems to me that the era to collect from should be the one that most means something to you.
For me it was the 80's era, particularly from 86-89 (I stopped skating in 89). I remember when I stepped up from my Valterra (Back tot he Future) board to a Madrid- Bill Danforth.
Man I used to love those boards. When I stopped, I had 30 skate decks and about enough trucks and wheels to have 5 or so boards for use. I miss those boards now.
Another great board to collect:
Natas Kaupas
How about Blockhead skateboards, I remember loving the one I had.

I watched that Hosoi docu, it was too damn depressing & the Gator one looks even worse. Eff that flick
My mounts came in yesterday, very nice. No worries on drilling the holes as I am using modern decks with factory predrilled holes.
Astaley that wheelbite.com link is dope

I used to keep all my broken decks. I had about a 3.5 foot stack but I recently got rid of them all.. I keep these on my wall. The one on the left is a newer Hosoi deck that an ex-girlfriend got me. I love the rising sun design (I also have a giant rising sun flag in my room) too much to skate it. The one on the right I got about 12-13 years ago from my mom's at the time boyfriend. I don't know how long he had it before that. It's a LOST deck which is strange.. I don't know if it's the same surf company LOST. The googly eyes are stickers that I taped up there.

Those ones you probably won't have a problem with. The sk8ology ones, 99.9% sure they expect you to open up the holes a bit. It's pretty retarded in my eyes.
Thanks. That's been the junk for years now. At one time you could pick'em up for next to nothing. Now, it's realistic to see 4000 slapped down for the right stick. Even more in some retarded cases. Unless you're lucky and hit the good buy now or off Ebay score. Skateboards are cooler than money without a doubt.
A good book to check out is Disposable, http://www.disposablethebook.com/. You can go a lot of ways. Era, rider, company, etc. Maybe that'll let you zero in on some in particulars if you feel compelled to take that plunge. www.artofskateboarding.com has tons of crap up to. Skate porn.

The sk8ology mounts look like ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- to me, glad they did as it would have sucked to bore out even brand new common decks.
www.artofskateboarding.com is a dead site, bummer I was really wanting some skate porn. Mos def getting those skate bible books too, nice recommendation thanks.
I ordered two out of eight boards today, went with the 90's style but current productions (to keep costs low). The next two will be old school tattoo art style http://www.redemptionskateboards.com/test/index.php Prob going for the "Immaculate" & "Dragons" as they look good.
Prob going to get two reissues of 80's boards but in the new slim format. Thinking Tony Hawk & a Santa Cruz...I wish there were room for more than 8 :banghead:
