Does Groovy Game Gear have something like U-360?
severdhed:
the u360s are awesome, very versatile sticks....if you need just a single joystick to handle anything you throw at it, the u360 is what you need. there are better dedicated 8 way sticks out there, just as there are better dedicated 4 way stick..if you have the room for multiple sticks, then that is probably a better option. the u360 works very well, it is nice being able to switch between playing street fighter, to donkey kong, to qbert all on the same stick.
i have two u360s that i used in my 2 player mame cabinet for a few years. when i picked up a showcase cabinet for a 4player setup, i converted my 2 player cabinet, set it up with a vertical monitor and a dedicated 4way stick. i have 4 8way sticks in my showcase (sanwa JLW) , so i have my u360s sitting on a shelf right now, i will probably end up using them if i ever get around to building a portable/bar top style cabinet.
bottom line, a dedicated 4 way and dedicated 8 way is generally better, but they take up space and add clutter to your panel...the u360 performs very well and is really the only way to go if you need everything in a single stick.

Yes and no. The stick is analog, so depending on where the stick is pointed, the PC can decide what to do. If you have the stick in a diagonal position and the program is in 4-way mode, it won't send an input to MAME (or whatever emulator you happen to be running). It does not have a physical restrictor, so it won't feel like a 4-way, but it should act like one otherwise.

With a u-360 you can program the diagonals to be "no change". So if you point left and go down to a diagonal, it will stay left. If you go down then go to a diagonal, it will stay down. If you do one of these motions then go from the diagonal to the adjacent side, it will switch positions then.
The u-360 software truely is the best thing about it. I just wish restrictors with more play were available.
The u-360 is the stick I went with for my first build and I have no regrets. It is extremely versatile and does most games well. I think it is THE stick to get for your first cabinet. I think I will go with something dedicated in any future build. I have grandiose plans to do 3 cabinets eventually but for having one, I am absolutely satisfied with the u-360. There is also a plugin for Mala that will automatically switch the setup of the u-360 to 8-way, 4-way etc based on the game you are playing. And you can set up the configuration for each mode quite easily so once it is tweaked (configed) for 8-way on one game, it will work on all 8-way games well.
