Thinking on ways to drum up business.....a special..... any input ?
What would a user like out of a layout ? Custom load screen, default snap image (custom), alternate background(s)  ?

I'd like to get some new SWAG for the "Man Cave." (Do people still say swag ?)
Anyway, I'd like to get some prints for the man cave and I'd love it if I could sell a few layouts to get the money.
So I figure I'd do a lil special........ 1 layout with load screen, default snap image, and animation in menu for $40.
Or 2 more simplistic layouts for $40.

I don't think I saw a centipede layout yet, if looking for something to post for interest. Something where a trackball is used for controls instead of joystick maybe?

(don't worry, will still reach out for a custom job when I do my multi-pede project, actually I got like 3 in mind for you when I can get to them  )

I like the idea of centipede, the classic layouts seem to spark the most interest.
And your correct, I've never done one.

For Low res perhaps a Williams Multi game (ie. Joust, Robotron, Defender, StarGate) Since they are older classic games that would fit a low res layout.

I'm a lil behind the last couple of days, no real time on the PC.
However come the weekend things should mellow out.
I will get ONE new MaLa layout done and hosted.... not sure which !

Promised way, way, way, way back I said I would put out a revised Fix It Felix Jr layout.
I've now got Fix It Felix Jr near set up on my PC and will be moving it over to my Donkey Kong jr MAME/MaLa cabinet shortly.

Over and above that I'm leaning heavily towards getting one of the Nintendo styled bartop units put out by Rick.
(see the sticky in the BUY & SELL thread)

I did (or do) plan on the bartop being an XBOX powered cabinet.... but now I kinda wanna have Fix It Felix Jr on it. And I think it would be neat to perhaps add a Fix It Felix to my line up as I have Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr, Popeye and Mario Bros..... would be either FIFJr or DK3 that I go with.

ANYWAY........... the point to my rant...............I think it's time my next free layout be started and  I think FIFjr v 2.0........bigger, badder, more wrecked!!!!!!!

Friday December 20th is my last day of work, Saturday December 21st is my b-day!!!! Yay Me!

Many MaLa users have great set-u's containing multiple emulators and ROM sets.
I myself have gone this route ! However many users use the same layout for all emulators.
Very few people have got in touch with me for multiple layouts on the one systerm.
HOWEVER the people who have LOVE the results.
Perhaps it is fear of cost ? Not sure, but since the layouts get built over the same template the rate very fair. For anyone interested in a set of layouts please contact me at vibefx@gmail.com

I have not done a promotion of sorts for a bit, so for anyone looking for 3 layouts I'll do a fourth free ! The free one I would like to make available to all via the forum if ok with the buyer.

I had the chance recently to work on a Donpachi MaLa layout.
This one was special, the artwork was created by BYOAC member "opt2not" & "BitterP."
These guys did an awesome job and I had the simple job of just making it work in MaLa.
My hat is off to both opt2not and BitterP.
I CAN NOT WAIT to see the cabinet that calls this artwork home.

Another recent project was a 1943 inspired layout.
I think this one is also really cool.

Throwing up a few pics to show the progression of the project.
I was able to do a custom desktop image for the customer also.
Really tied in the theme.

I like your designs - especially the ones that appear to shadow over the game list.

From what I can see in MaLa - the way to do that is to:

1. Create a background with the shadow of the character in it already.

2. Create a separate PNG with transparency that fits over that shadow.

3. Create a Custom object in MaLa and set it to Transparency.

4. Place it over the shadow in the background.

Is that how to do it? That would work, although it's a fudge, since the shadow wouldn't mask over the game list text - only the image would.

This masking trick is also how the circular window works - using a Custom object and setting the transparency.

I'm working on a Pucnh-Out image 12" x 18" that I can print and frame for my man-cave.
Also will be working on a Punch-Out layout that I will make available to all.

Welcome to the jungle............We've got fun and games !
Part of me is shocked that I'm never really asked to create layouts that
feature peoples favorite things. Be it a team, a car, a girl, etc.
I mean it makes sense that these layouts are an extension of the cabinet...I mean
even all my machines that use MaLa are themed to match the cabinet.

The other day I was asked to do a jungle inspired layout. Right away tons of ideas
came to mind........all of which the customer liked. But when I sat down to do this....ummm.......it just did not come to me!

A break, fresh eyes and a second crack at this and now things were starting to flow.
I was able to do a layout for each monitor orientation, two different load screens, and a desktop image the customer could use on his PC.
When we were bouncing ideas around I asked the customer, "Do you like Guns N' Roses?" I thought it would be a cool idea that on the load screen we feature the text,
"Welcome to the jungle..............We've got fun and games!"
The customer like me liked the idea.......the kicker.............We added the audio file to match. So when the customer boots up his PC and MaLa starts his jungle theme is complete with custom load screens and the MP3 of "Welcome to the jungle" by Guns N' Roses.
I think it is a sweet layout and I'm happy I was able to do it.

Right now I'm looking to get some money together for a project I'm doing.
(Punch-Out theme bartop cabinet) I'll be kicking up each layout with a couple goodies as needed. As always I push my services ........Mike @ vibefx@gmail.com

^^^ That was me on there other end of this process.  Mike is the Man!  I had so much fun working with him on this.  I really felt as though he was as invested in the success of my project as I was.  I just want to say that Mike is an asset to the community and he is a really great guy.  All this and he is very fair with his pricing.  I know that I will be doing another project with him in the future.

I did enjoy working on this project. I truly enjoy doing these layouts for people.
I do it for fun, and to make a few bucks, all the money I usually reinvest into the hobby.
The layouts fund projects.

I take pride in what I do. Being honest and fare and I appreciate the trust members have showed in me.
If i can in anyway help make a users cabinet awesome I will strive to do so.

Jungle Fever was a super cool project. It's funny.........I've promised the users of this site (and slacked) that I would compile a sound set that could be used in any MaLa layout. A series of beeps, blips, bops, etc that could be used for button presses and joystick movements. I've been so busy as a new dad...but I will get on that.

I've used the arcade ambiance project for many projects and I LOVE it! But I never use other music, but after doing your layout it makes me wanna go back and add the Super Mario Bros music to my Mario MAME.

If the music can fit the layout I think it has the same effect as a soundtrack in a movie....now maybe that is pushing it. But I dunno....you turn on Jungle Fever and you get "Welcome To The Jungle." I think that is bad --I'm attempting to get by the auto-censor and should be beaten after I re-read the rules--....not only that, the load screen indicates "We've Got Fun And Games" as taken from the lyrics.... that just works ! Sorry to toot my horn...but TOOT TOOT! IT WORKS ! lol

Warmer weather means more chores......more, more, more !!

Some projects tend to take a back seat this time of year, however others jump to the font...the ability to work outside is a plus.
