XBMC available for Apple TV

Blanka:
Just let the Ati think it is a 720x1280 display. Your TV wil rescale it to 1024x768

Hey Blanka,
yeah, I tried 720p 50hz and 60hz but it just looks blurry and washed out.  1080i works, but I can only get it to sync at 30hz, and it just doesn't look right. My other Hyperspin box didn't have this problem, but my newer setup with the ATi 5770 looks like garbage in all the "supported modes." I finally figured out a slight work around- I connect it using an hdmi to dvi cable (hdmi in to the TV with DVI into the video card) and Catalyst somehow auto detects it as a 1920 x 1080 display @ 60hz. But it's still not sharp and clear until I switch the desktop res through Windows7 to 1680 x 1050, and bingo it looks great! Catalyst still sees it as 1920 x 1080, but somehow Windows is scaling it in a way that fits the funky resolution of the 720p plasma. Still, I don't get why I have to do some crazy work around to get it to scale right. If an xbox, wii, and a multitude of other devices can scale perfectly to it, why can't the ATi driver see it right? I've also tried power stip and it only makes things worse. I was about ready to swap the video card out until I discovered the above work around. Anyhow, now I've got XBMC working beautifully! And I can't wait to get Hyperspin up and running- was going to wait for 2.0 to be released. Nonetheless, I do hope XBMC on Apple TV matures in the future. I'd love to get one for friends or family who don't need a full blown HTPC. And since it runs on iOS, once they get Cydia running on it, I'm sure it will be able to handle MAME4all just as well as the iPad. Could be fun to hack a wii-mote to joystick for emulators. Let me know if anyone has any luck with their Apple TV?

That is why we practice a word called restraint.  It might be neat to post it, but do you have the right to post it from Saint's website?

What?  Its legal for iphone?  Is it legal for AppleTV?  Have you looked?

Is it fine for me to start publishing links to hacking software?  I do not think so and if you did it on my website without my permission you WOULD get a life ban.

I'm all for free speech and everything, but I am also for common sense.   ::)

Here is the link for the ruling.  And the iphone ruling is not just for iphones but could be used for any wireless device, but you will see that the AppleTV is not wireless and is not the same.

Yeah I know it sounds like its the same considering it is iOS and everything, it is not and could land anyone caught in hot water.

It is my experience not to tempt the genie out of the bottle, especially Apple.

I have looked at this copyright statement again, and it looks like they changed the ruling on computer software archiving.  It seems:

(4) Video games accessible on personal computers and protected by technological protection measures that control access to lawfully obtained works, when circumvention is accomplished solely for the purpose of good faith testing for, investigating, or correcting security flaws or vulnerabilities, if:

    (i) The information derived from the security testing is used primarily to promote the security of the owner or operator of a computer, computer system, or computer network; and
(ii) The information derived from the security testing is used or maintained in a manner that does not facilitate copyright infringement or a violation of applicable law.

Puts a real glimmer of hope of the legality of Mame now, considering that security testing was not a goal for circumvention, or maybe I should be more adoptive with this:

5) Computer programs protected by dongles that prevent access due to malfunction or damage and which are obsolete.  A dongle shall be considered obsolete if it is no longer manufactured or if a replacement or repair is no longer reasonably available in the commercial marketplace....

Well I can crack open those 2600 and C64 carts now.  Neogeo?

Could all change in 3 years though...
