Horizontal Monitors and Vertical Games

I use an Arcadevga card with a 27" monitor. and using the closest resolutions as possible to the original games I have the issue with vertical games
not showing everything as bottom or top is cut off. I was wondering what other people do with this situation and rotating my monitor isn't an option.

Thanks

Is this before or after adjusting the vertical size?

Where the problem is happening will depend on if there is additional image that's 'stretched' past the edges of the screen by the vsize  being too large, or if there is simply no image there as being generated by mame itself.

I had/have the same issue, I have a 25" horizontal and on some very games I lose part of some vertical game at the top and bottom.  In Pac Man, for example, I can't see the fruit at the bottom, or the words Score and High Score at the top.  This doesn't bother me much, so I haven't done anything about it.  In Tron, though, I lose a considerable bit of the screen, I can't see the bottom row in the tank-maze, or the bottom wall in the light cycle.  What I did for this was change the resolution using MAME32(right-click on the game and go into properties, then it's the Advanced tab I think), I just experimented until I found the best one.  After I did this, the settings stick when using regular MAME.  Unfortunately, changing this makes the game less sharp, so I had to try maybe 20 different resolutions before I found one that let me see the entire screen that wasn't really bad looking.

I had to do the same thing on another horizontal MAME I built, so I guess it's just a by-product of how many lines are available on the monitor?

Yea I know where the problem lies I just wanted to get a feel for what other people are doing for it, such as just setting another resolution for that game
or just dealing with it as is. I could set the game for 640X480 and leaving it but hoping for another solution to present itself that I didn't think of.

Thanks

I was seriously considering building a dedicated vertical MAME just to deal with this issue, but in the end, I guess I figured it was "ok" enough after changing the res of the games that were really bad.

I'm watching this thread, though, in case someone knows a better fix.

Regards,
Ryan
