D9200 out :(
Madman:
I have a D9200 that is once again dead... its old but has LESS than 50 hours on it... (I know that doesn't mean to much)
Anyway the unit had sat for a year or so unused (in the cab of course) Went to turn it on and nothing....
I checked the common things on the troubleshooting list (HOT section) and and few things John @ WG has suggested.
I get a real faint (very faint) relay click then nothing... dead no raster, no HOT.. Any thoughts..... ?
Thanks in advance.....
Dan
Ken Layton:
Wells used crap capacitors in many of their late models like yours. It would be a good idea to recap it then see what it does. You've got what is probably Wells-Gardner's most troublesome monitor.
Madman:
Thanks ken... I ordered the cap kit.. I'll dig through this one way or another and report back what i find...
I somehow suspect its not a cap but figured I would do it since the whole thing including the tube needs to be removed from the cab for proper troubleshooting. I'll start by isolating the supply and testing the 170 line...wish me luck.
Madman:
I think I will document my repair as much as I can to POSSIBLY help another person.. I have been reading alot on this GEM of a monitor and will try to collect the data here.
Problem:
Set is DEAD only a faint relay click can be heard.
I called WG and (John) gave me a list of components to test. I decided that the 20 they cost would be worth it to just replace as I have not repaired a TV or such in a very long time and have long since forgotten how to properly test some components..

(tested good)r854
ok... same results.. (hehe I now have spares of those parts....)
OK... no chance in a freebe... I was trying to avoid taking the tube out of the cab.....
Now I am pissed//<< but will have fun defeating this thing!
Ordered a cap kit (just in case)
Ordered a cap tester
Ordered a High voltage probe....
First order of business will be to isolate the power supply and test voltage and waveforms (my scope will get some use).
Disconnect r854 put 120 light bulb at supply side and to cold ground.
To be continued after I remove said monitor from cab...................
qrz:
what's the raw B+ across BD801 - 240Vdc or higher ?
for input voltage below 130Vrms , the STR83145 switches the input to function as a line doubler
above 170Vrms, it switches to fullwave rectification
see: http://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/view/55222/ALLEGRO/STR83145.html
the faint click might be the degauss relay attempting to toggle at less than rated 12v
