Remote control Jukebox?
(1/1)
BuZz880:
Ok, I know this has to have come up but I can't find a recent discussion on it. Have any of you guys found a frontend that looks like a Jukebox but that actually is controlling a MP3 playing machine in another room which is wired to the stereo???
It seems to me this is the key to a cab since you could hop into jukebox mode queue up some songs and return to gaming while listening to the music. Much better than an either/or situation IMO.
TIA

Do you mean grabbing songs from a network or remote control of another pc? VMJ does just fine with running from across a network. I do this with my jukebox. I set up VMJ on the jukebox and then when you define the playlist just set the playlist to your file server.
If you want remote control over another PC there are a 2 options that come to mind. Winamp (2.8) has a pluggin for remote winamp control. I downloaded it from their site in the pluggin section.
Or if you have Windows XP Pro you can use the remote desktop admin feature and control anything you like there.
As far as a frontend that looks like a jukebox, not sure of that. But I wonder why it matters what it looks like if it is on a remote machine?
hope this helps.

I'm using PC Anywhere at the moment, I should try that remote desktop thing I forgot about it. I do this with eJukebox and its not too bad but what I really wanted was a client that looks like eJukebox and is really running on the local machine but actually plays the MP3's off of another machine.
What I have is good enough I suppose but I wanted a party-room interface built from spare PC parts perhaps with a real nice monitor so it looks good but I wanted to serve the files off my main PC which a) has more storage space and b) is already wired to 2 of the stereos in my house. Next phase would of course be a web interface for the Palm Pilot but those web interfaces are fine for me to use but nothing I would present to a guest as useful.

Try Iplay..you can run multiple instances of the frontend and uses a central database and mp3 collection. More info on my site...
Designed for use on a TV, IPLAY is built on an SQL database which means it can handle 1000's of tracks.
Loads of features and it's free.
Come and have a look
