Possible Star Wars flight yoke subsitute

Just the Star Wars games so far. It's still on my test bench. I've got to get up off my butt and finish the control panel for my Mame machine. I'll tell you what though, once you dial in the analog settings this thing is like butter! I used to play the mess out of the original, and even recently have played on original equipment (cockpit Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back) and it is definitely superior.

I've got a Road Blasters panel which the yoke mounts to perfectly, and I just need to cut the MDF which it will mount to. Probably in the next week or so I'll head over to Harbor Freight and pick up one of those heated scrapers to get the overlay off and finish the job before it gets too cold out.

Awesome.  Keep us posted on which games work with the yoke.

I have a MAMEd Star Wars cabinet, and SW, Empire, and Jedi work great, and Paperboy also works.  Roadblasters however doesn't perform so well.  Apparently, RB uses optical 270 degree steering.  I have tried tweaking the analog settins in MAME, but I cannot get it just right.

One solution would be to recompile MAME to let RB use analog (I have not tried this).

Another solution would be to attach an encoder wheel to the inner axle of the yoke and install an optical encoder.  I have not tried this either, but I believe someone on BYOAC has.  If I try this soon I will post the results.

could someone with this repro post some pics of how this mounts?

i just recently sold my star wars upright (made 2 grand!) and am thinking of adding this repro controller but i'd like to add it as an easily removable option.

thinking of making my trackball a modular pop out and then have the yoke pop into it's place.  ideally i'd like to just have the yoke module fit OVER the trackball so i wouldn't have to remove the TB.  thinking of four small holes around the trackball.  the sw yoke mounted to a piece of wood (with a hole cut out that the TB would fit into) with 4 metal pins that would pop into the holes around the TB.

If you want to go on the cheap... look at the twisty grip.  google it, there are plans online.  Basically its made out of pvc.

I've never made one, and have an orginal starwars yoke.  I don't know how they compare.  I'm guessing that the feel is off, but the range of motion should be similar.
