Turbo's First MAME Cabinet
Turbo Biscuit:
I started this cabinet back in May after a divorce and finished in June. It was my stress relief... however I think it caused more stress than it relieved. It started as an old Xmen arcade and ended up as a Police Trainer in a laundromat somewhere along the line. I bought it for $50.
The factory used latex paint over the original enamel, so it just peeled off. The parts that didn't peel off I used citristrip.
The coin doors were in poor shape, and even citristrip wouldn't get the paint off, so I spent hours with a scraper, and finally just resorted to a palm sander. I decided to do accents, so I painted them black, and then taped them off.
I decided to go the LCD route. I got two 19" for $50. One for this build, one for a second build. I used vertical slats to mount the monitor, and the tape was to help center it in the glass. I used black mattboard for the bezel.
Some of the holes were already drilled from it being an Xmen machine, but I had to go ahead and cut out an entirely new piece of plexiglass and drill about 10 new holes to match my joysticks and extra buttons. I used an IPAC4 for the encoder.
This is pretty much the final product. I installed cup holders later and the marquee light as well. I want to install artwork eventually on the bezel, kickplate, and control panel. It has the original coin mechanisms, which I would also like to install. I'm glad it's finally done, and it's the life of the party and all my friends are extremely jealous. It's running Hyperspin.

nice. I like the paint job on the coin doors, but I think it would have looked better with just one door.

That cab looks great especially for a first! Gives me great inspiration to keep trudging along with my first cab. Keep up the great work and thanks again for the tips!
Turbo Biscuit:
Thanks! Well those are actually the original doors. It had 2 coin and then 2 bucket doors. Trust me, I wish there had been only 1. :banghead:

I like the black/yellow. The cab is just screaming for a Yellow Jacket or Bumble Bee or something along those lines in the marquee :)
