hi there, im new to makeing these, i only thought of the idea really because i have a base of a old slot machine in my garage.. it looks like it is a multyuse kind of thing, iv taked the slot machine off the base to fir in my room, i have two or so questions thoough regarding my progect

one - would it be posibble to use a old shot machine coin aceptor to allow me to "pay nd play" my machine? with this "M.A.M.E" program im hearing abbout, would it allow me to make it so when the carachter dies you can keep on playing by adding more credits?

i was also wondering abbout just useing a  old PS2 instead.. buting time crisis and doing that.. but then theres that aynoyance that when i die it would jjust let me keep playing,

i really have no idea abbout anything really.. i looked for coin operated nes but to no avail, hope someone can help me somehow!!!

BobA:

The coin mech will connect to an encoder to allow Mame to sense the coin insertion.   If the game allows continues with more coins then it will work.  PS2 and other consoles usually only have timed play and not continues since they are not built for coin mechs.

Something like this coin acceptor with adjustable timer can be used to run consoles for a set amount of time.

That timer thing is SWEET! Once I am done with my initial build, maybe I'll build a console based cab with emulators, maybe even actual consoles in it.  You could use this hooked up to a USB hub that has your controls hooked up to it, it would be like a huge PLayChoice cabinet, but wih like TONS of console games! Any ideas on how to make it say "INSERT COIN TO CONTINUE" when the time is up?

Since real consoles do not have anything to say that it would probably take a microprocessor with some custom programming to pause the console and overlay and sync the video.  There are already programs available for various micros to overlay video so some I/O programming for the pause button would be needed.

For emulators it would be much simpler since it is already USB so it can plug into a PC.
