I posted this in the software section and didn't get any help. I want to know if anyone on here has successfully taken either Dragon's Lair HD (PC-DVD-ROM) or Blu-Ray and converted them for use with the Daphne emulator? This goes for Space Ace and Dragon's Lair II as well. I know that Daphne will not currently support these superior versions, but have read that it's possible to convert them. I'm amazed that there hasn't been more prodding to get the Daphne team to do this instead of being content with the grainy quality of the 20th Anniversary Edition. I just don't get it??? So has anybody achieved a conversion of the either DLHD or Blu-Ray and is playing them thru Daphne as I type this? Has anyone got a working version of Cliff Hanger (Restored Edition) that works with Daphne? Any help would be appreciated...

I think you are misunderstanding what I'm asking. The Dragon's Lair you're talking about on your Mame cab is from the 20th Anniversary Edition set. I'm talking about taking either the HD PC version or
Blu-Ray version and converting their files for use with Daphne. As of now Daphne does not support these versions, but there are people who figured out a way. There is just no comparison between the 20th Anniversary set and the HD versions...like comparing ice cream and poop.

I'm running an HD version of Dragon's Lair, Space Ace and remastered version of Cliff Hangar via Daphne... There is definitely a way to work around Daphne's restrictions.  But, I didn't convert them... I acquired them that way.  I do have the 20th Anniv version that I used to unlock, but my HD version looks great and works just as well.

What Dazz said.  They are out there.  And Daphne won't run these games in HD, but even at 640x480 the picture quality is 2-3 times better than the original laser disk.  Especially Cliffhanger.  Would be nice if DL2HD came out so we could get that one up rezed too.

Cliff hanger restored works just fine. If you are having problems check there isnt a web address or some sort of 'tag' in the framefile.

I guess I should re-phrase my question a bit. Is there anyone willing to help me get these HD versions of Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, and the Restored Cliff Hanger? I want the best possible experience when playing these games and the 20th Anniversary Edition is not the best quality. I want these for my Mame cabinet...nothing else. Help would be great!

Thanks,
Keith

If people seem unwilling to help you here its because its getting into the morally gray area of sharing copywrited material and we don't want to get banned from the forum.

I have no qualms about technical discussions on how to covert files from legitimately purchased HD versions of the games for use with Daphne. I have the standard def anniversary edition myself that I use with Daphne, but if there's a relatively easy way to use the high def versions I'll probably buy them also :) Hell, I own like 4 versions of Star Wars

Yes it really would be good to know how to make them work. I just bought a CD version, but I first bought the Blue ray version months ago and still trying to get them to work. But nothing. I now just bought the 20th aniv version, and hoping this time it will work! I would like the BR to work though if it looks better anyone... anyone?  :dizzy:

Yeah, it will. Actually I don't own episodes 4-6 on DVD, just VCR! Was rather startled to discover that. Will be buying the Blu-Ray to rectify that.

I wish Lucas would put out some more Star Wars movies instead of just rehashing the old stuff - wasn't it supposed to be a 12 part series?

9 was the rumor initially.  The original (4, 5, and 6), then the prequels (1, 2, and 3), then another series of 3 (7, 8, and 9).

I'll take 12 though.   :)

Surely someone that has chimed in on this topic can help me out. I'm sitting here playing the 20th Anniversary Edition of Dragon's Lair and Space Ace thru Daphne and thinking to myself, "this could be so much better." I do not have the technical skills to convert these files and just want the HD conversion. If fear of getting banned from these forums is the issue...heck send me a private message or email me at survivorfan1985@yahoo.com. I legitimately own both the Blu-Ray and HD versions. I would really appreciate the help!

Don't think I've ever banned anyone for an issue like this. Worst has ever been a reminder to take that sort of thing elsewhere. I'm all about using media you've legally purchased however you wish.

But yeah i wished Daphne would update the "footage"... I wish i could find the better quaility version, but im too noobish to try and covert what i needed...and i already have too much on my plate to deal with...when i ever get caught up, I'll see about trying...

I've been meaning someday to convert my Dragon's Lair 2:Time Warp Blu-Ray to Daphne. It looks really complicated (at least to me). And I'd have to buy a Blu-Ray player for PC.  Here is the only thread I've ever found about it.

https://www.daphne-emu.com:9443/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2161

Does anyone know of a better guide for Blu-Ray/HD conversion to Daphne (a better thread?)? Hope this helps.

I have converted both DL HD and SA HD to work in Daphne.

Both look fantastic.
It took ages to get the files converted right.  I would post pictures of them, but I'm sure I would get into trouble.

They only work in the PC version of Daphne.  I tried DaphneX but it only likes whole laserdisc captures (and I own both discs).

I have the Cliff Hangers too. They are not that good.  ::)

Incidentally I cleaned up my version of Time Gal for the PSX. It looks great too.

My next project is Super Don Quixote HD.  ;D

It would be great to find the source code for DaphneX.  Does anyone know where to find it?  It should be open source.

ark_ader -- What tools did you use to convert the files into Daphne? Was dvd2daph one of them (http://www.laserarchive.com/dvd2daph/)? For DL2 Blu-Ray, the conversion to Daphne is the part I'm dreading.

Yes it was but I used TMPGEnc to clean it up.

I also used it to clean up the Time Gal video.  That took much longer.

Next time I embark on this I will get a decent rig together like a quad or 6 core AMD with plenty of RAM.

Please do not ask me for my files.  I will not share. They are MINE.  Make your own and learn from it.

Thanks

Wasn't planning on it  :). I want to do it myself. But I guess it's a good idea to warn off others. I suppose this is why not that many people talk about their success on the Daphne board (see my prior link). There was some begging going on in that thread!

Oh, and thanks for the TMPGEnc recommendation. I'm way off from starting my conversion, but want to at least know what I'm getting into.

Out of interest what exactly did you do with Time Gal? Did you replace psx footage with laserdisc footage? Does it play on psx/Daph or is it a rolling video?

Searching around a little bit it appears that if you take the BR m2ts files and demux them into m2v and ogg files using freeware MPEG-Streamclip.  Then you can combine the m2vs into one file using virtual dub and comparing side by side with the downloaded m2v ensuring that all frames match up you can have a working solution.  Still researching but this at least looks feasible.

Yes if I recreate the BR as one big m2v thats frame for frame the same as the downloaded m2v it will work.  I'm just curious if there is a better, faster, way.  For example if someone has in fact done this before and has even the order of files to combine that would be a head start!

The first image (I ran it though VLC) is from the laserdisc.  The other is from the Space Ace HD version I converted to m2V.  Note that the first image is slightly blurred and the colors are not quite right.
This excepts is from the Preview Sequence so I should be fine for being within copyright.  But copyright is owned by Digital Leisure and Don Bluth.

I have the Time Gal version on my Arcade PC, and it looks OK.  I do not have the Laseractive version or the player.  I am sourcing the Saturn version though.  Mine is from the PSX version and the process is quite slow and needed several passes to complete.  One thing I noticed, is the issues around playing it on a real PSX.  There must be some checksum used as it only works in PSXE.  But that is fine for me.  The process for SA-HD conversion is well documented, but it does take time to complete.  The results are well worth it.  Dragon's Lair looks awesome.

Screenshots are easy - let's see some video with the front end and then gameplay...

Can I do this via You Tube legally - game play wise?

If you tell me the order of m2ts files you combined for dragon's lair from the bluray I'll believe that you did it. :)  (Of course with manual frame editing afterwards.)

Oh well I do not own a bluray player.  What makes you think I got it from a BR disc?

Did I say BR?   :dunno

I pulled it from my SAHD DVD.  You I'm sure you could pull it from BR but you would lose so much from the conversion. Why would you would be my next question.

I'm not doubting that you could not do it, but the DVD HD version is just as good, and it is compatible with Daphne.

Sorry if you got the wrong impression.   ???

I own the BR and do not own the DVD HD version. :)
