Help with Roms
« on: October 13, 2010, 07:42:31 pm »
I downloaded mario bros., super mario bros., Tekken games, Mortal combat III, and a few others and when I put them in the rom folder and go to game list and hit F5 to refresh the games, they  dont show up on the list. The roms are in the rom folder but not on list , any ideas?

Are they merged ROMs or split? If they are split you need to make sure you have the parent sets as well as the roms for the particular revision of the game you want to run.

split will show up still, but when you try to load, it'll tell you it's missing roms.

double check that your rom folder is specified in mame.ini?

The Roms you are using probably don't match the version of Mame you have.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Did you make sure to leave them zipped?

1 - Verify the Mame version you're using.

2 - Download Romcenter here: http://www.romcenter.com/

3 - Download latest MAME (Datafile) to use with Romcenter here: http://www.logiqx.com/Dats/

4 - Set your Mame roms directory in Romcenter and verify if they are updated.

5 - Update outdated Roms by downloading them from a trusted source. You'll have to ask privately how to obtain them to experienced MAME users.

Don't ask privately here.

Rules?  We don't need no steeenkin rules!

Well, maybe we do. This site started off small, and the rules back then were pretty simple - be nice to each other. The site has grown however, and while that's great, it does lead to a larger number of people who have differing ideas about what that means. Hence.... the rules:

5. Nothing illegal! Do I even need to explain this one? Need a ROM to repair an arcade board you own? Fine to talk about. Need a ROM to complete your MAME collection? Don't bother to post here. If someone posts such a request, please don't answer it -- no direct answers, no hints, no private messages.

Hey Saint!

No need to get psyched up, there are other ways to ask for something in private! I just decided to give a little hint about the subject! :)
