Any luck with the sound? The speaker is 4". These are similar to what I used and were a tight fit, but they're much better than the original: http://cgi.ebay.com/Pair-New-4-Inch-Full-Range-Speaker-Drivers-NSBs-/260697317937?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item3cb2c56231
Be careful that the entire speaker, including the basket isn't wider than 4".
Probably a good idea to stick with shielded ones.

So I adjusted the pot, and the in-game volume adjustment, checked the wiring. The speaker is bad.
