yeah it seems a 36" would be too big for anything other than a showcase cabinet.
on a standard upright, you'll probably mess up you eyes

we have one of those same monitors we use for our cabinet at work. it is definitely too big for a standard type cabinet. our's really ins't a cabinet..more like a that monitor on a stand, with a controll panel on a separate pedestal. the front edge of our panel is about 30" from the screen..any closer than that and it is too hard to look at. they are great monitors and are perfect for mame, however you need a showcase style setup for it to be feasable.
