I am trying to determine what emulators to install on my box.

This is a stand-up arcade. Are people installing emulators such as SNES and using arcade style controllers to play games or handheld controllers?

I purchased a couple of USB SNES controllers a while back - I guess I could install some female USB connectors on the side of my box to accommodate them. Then I would just need to use the old bar stool when playing those games.

I guess my real question is what is the point of installing non MAME style emulators on a stand-up arcade box? Obviously, I see the point of NEO-GEO, Daphne and other similar games, but Atari 2600, N64, SNES, etc. are traditionally games one would play while sitting on a couch and not standing in front of a game.

I would think that MAYBE the 2600 games would translate well, due to the old joystick...

I just can't see trying to map the buttons from a N64 joystick to the Tankstick... The games lend themselves better to a handheld controller, in my opinion...

Do you find yourself trying to load as many games as possible on your box or limit yourself to a pre-select group of games?

     Almost every system has a few cab friendly games, but for the games like Super Mario 3 and stuff where a controller is just so much better, I just stuffed two ps3 controllers in the coin collector door of my cab and leave it unlocked.  They are mapped to mimic the 6 button controller layout I have setup on the main controls, and depending which cord you plug them into they can also be used as player 3 and 4 (I have a 2 player fighter layout) for most systems. (super fun for tmnt/simpsons).

     For the N64 though, some games you just simply cannot map very good with anything but a N64 controller.  I have considered purchasing a couple of them with the usb adapter thing on them from a few different websites, but I haven't been able to pull the trigger on it.  The analog stick on the N64 controller is notoriously short lived.  Fortunately, a lot of gnarley games can be played fine with the 6 button arcade layout (NFL Blitz, Crusin' USA, Mario kart, KI Gold, MK Trillogy).  On an added note, I originally started out by just adding as many games as humanly possible to my machine. Wish I would have added in smaller batches and did more tests,  Because, now I'm stuck weeding out the bad ones/trying to get cool screen shots, and it totally sucks.

     Sorry for the late post, I just thought this might help somebody one of these days. ;D

The NES games I find work perfectly with my arcade machine.  When I was a kid I owned the "NES Advantage" joystick pictured here: 

So it's pretty close to arcade-like.  Also, most NES emulators allow you to assign a Turbo button as well.

I also have a blast playing Atari games on my cab.  There have been some fierce games of "Combat" on my arcade.  I actually like it better that you're standing right next to your opponent.  Not to mention spinner games like my all time favorite "Kaboom!".  I don't know of any USB paddle controllers at the moment, but the spinner on an arcade works well.

I agree about the N-64 comments.  But actually hated the N-64 controller itself, so porting it over to my arcade was an improvement for me.  Especially for games like Mario Kart.
