Mortal Kombat 2 Dynamo Conversion refresh : Kampcool
« on: June 04, 2011, 03:10:21 am »

I have already ordered a new Marquee, and some competition joysticks.  I have really cleaned up the picture since I photographed it, but I still get interupted with a squashed presentation, and lines.......   The display is a Wells Gardner 25k7184 (K7000).

Also, the machine restarts intermittenly, as if someone turned it off and back on.  The power supply is a u-san electron ltd Peter Chou 11-150v-3

I should probably address the power supply 1st, as this (but not probable) COULD be causing some display issues.  Start at the source, right?

Any thoughts here, much appreciated.

It wouldn't surprise if your PS was causing that, are they rolling lines or static?, rolling lines like are normally caused by a grounding issue, or interference. IE like back in the day when your TV would go crazy when mom vacuumed

Roger That, but these are static lines, always present, and then after unit heats up, (about 3 fights in) screen shrinks, and lines become predominate in the middle.  I just ordered a cap kit for a wells gardner k7000, we will see if that does the trick.     I cannot immediately find a link to the power supply.      Here are the numbers I have found:  U-San Electron Ltd. Peter Chou. Model USP 11-150V-3   Sn4101795 (which is also the patent#), Before I power up my Wells Gardner 25k7184, I really would like a replaced Power Supply.     HELP!?

If your restoring it to a working MK2 cabinet then you have 2 option's you can follow this guys stuff to use a PC power supply "350w would prolly be good"

http://www.habosarcade.com/MortalKombatMulti%20JammaCab.htm#PC%20Power%20Supplies

OR

http://www.happ.com/powersupplies/80000300.htm
is what I use in my UMK3 cabinet

"edit"
also check what your -5v is putting out MK boards are VERY VERY finicky about -5 if it's not enough they will do all kinds of weird things.

I "SEE" that so clearly now.  My P/S is fine, it has a POT adjust, that I needed to tweak to get the -5.

hey guys putting a cap kit in this weekend on this Wells Gardner 25k7184 (K7000).    Outside of the flyback, are there any other discharge concerns I should be aware of?   This is my 1st wellsgardner, so any tips would be appreciated.

A couple of odd finds upon discharge and removal of my 25k7184 wellsgardner from this MK2 conversion.  Now please forgive me if I am wrong about identifying stuff, as I am green as the Panama jungle here, but I promise, I pickup quick.  Everything was normal looking, until I went to unplug the yoke connector(pretty sure thats what its called) off of the chasis board.

It was very cluttered in there, when I realized there was a big piece of rubber debris, wedged right to the bottom.

I have no idea what it is, or its importance, but I have set it off to the side, as I know it doesnt belong.

The second ODD thing I noticed was a vertically mounted sister board (THAT WAS SUPER LOOSE/FLAPPING IN THE WIND).

Whats this one called?

Gee I wonder why I could just "Fonzerelly" gently to the right of my marquee, and get rid off THIS:

I bet if I just did a reflow here, she MIGHT be fine:

Half of these joints are visibly loose.

But......what the hell, right.  Ive come this far.  I have a capkit, a new gun holder(I DID learn during the G07), and some solder.   Ive read ALOT of the Wells Gardner horrors, and I have to say, I am apprehensive.  I want to learn, and I do NOT want to dissapoint (teenagers are waiting).

My biggest fear is discovering someone elses failed repair.   This sure doesnt look "stock",    OMG!   IS THIS COMMON?

Ill just assume this is what a stock wells gardner 25k7943 is supposed to look like.  Im at the half way point in the cap install, and I do miss working on the G07 already.  They must have mass produced these bad boys at a furious pace,........

Yeah, I definately liked the capjob on the G07 better, it was labeled better, I guess.   However the Wells Gardner didnt have as many "Tight, small solder points"  I couldnt believe the sloppy factory solders on this 25k7184, tho..   The Canadians did A much more quality job on the G07.
This was intimidating, but wound up being easier than I thought (read too many horror stories, I guess).
