hi , im just wondering if there are 4pin fans available for dell systems ? preferably not made by dell , cause lets face it , they are way too loud. my cab is extremely annoying and you'd swear there was a gale blowing inside it , but the fans are actually very weak  i do know that using a fan off a cpu heatsink would work , but i cant exactly buy 3 cpu coolers and take the fans off as they cost alot , even for junk ones. i dont mind cutting into wires so i could join up the fan with the dell connector , but ive searched alot for these 4pin fans and aint found much  anyone have any suggestions cheers  dave. |

You're talking a case fan? Just get any fan of appropriate size (with a decent review), and most come with connectors to hook into a molex, so no need to cut and splice. Some come with a built in adjustment for RPM so you can balance out noise:performance as you see fit, others adjust themselves based off temp, etc. Follow cotmm68030's link to Newegg...they have a great selection. |

thanks for the replies , but i think you mis-understand. a normal case fan is 3pin and comes with a standard molex connector. its 3 pins are : positive / negative / rpm what im looking for is a 4 pin fan , which dell fans are . the 4pins are : positive / negative / rpm / voltage regulator these are used by dell so that the mobo can regulate the power to the fans in case the temp sky rockets. ( seems to me like they are on full already so i dont know why they bothered ) . but , if i do try and take the dell fan out and replace it with a 3pin ( technically it'll work ) im looking at recieving a pop-up from the bios during boot up telling me that a system fan isnt connected. if i get a 4pin fan ( 4 pin fans usually are found on cpu heatsinks only ) and splice the wires , the bios wont pop up messages while im turning on the pc. ive tested taking out a non-essential dell fan before and it wouldnt let me boot untill it was re-connected. anyways, thought i'd try here for some info :) |

I am using a dell where I removed the case fan/cpu fan shroud combo. While I see the fan error in the bios log, I do not get stopped by it or have any sort of pop iup. Try setting your BIOS options that report on errors (like keyboard attached) to off. |
