American Laser Games in Maximus Arcade

SOLUTION!

Granted this solution always skips the first video of all my American Lightgun Games. I'm working on a better solution, I will post if I find one, but if anyone already has the solution please let me/us know.

How to start American Light Games Maximized.

1. Download software:
First you need to download and install http://www.autohotkey.com/
This program is for making scripts, we will use it to tell Crime Patrol to goto fullscreen once it has started up.

2. Create script:
Next goto your Crime Patrol install folder, and create a new text document (notepad.exe) and type the following into it...
Code: [Select]
RUN, CP.EXE
WinWait, Crime Patrol,
IfWinNotActive, Crime Patrol, ,  WinActivate, Crime Patrol,
WinWaitActive, Crime Patrol,
Send, {F}
Now save as "CP_AHK.AHK"

3. Compile Script:

Right click "CP_AHK.AHK" and select compile script. It will create a file named "CP_AHK.exe". Run the new file to test it. Crime Patrol should load up and goto fullscreen. If not you have done something wrong.

4. Create Batch file:
Open notepad and copy n paste the following...
Code: [Select]
@echo off
cd "Z:\TEMP\EMULATORS AND ROMS\PROGRAM FILES\American light games\CRIME PATROL"
start CP_AHK.exe
Save as Crime Patrol.bat, and place in your Batch files folder.

5. Configure MA for Batch files.
I assume everyone knows how to do this, and has already done it.

This solution can be used to easily get all American light games to goto fullscreen after launch. All you have to do is modify the script a little. Change "Crime Patrol" to "Mad Dog McCree", and change the name of the .exe obviously. Don't foget to change your batch files too.

I have to give credit to AldousHxlE (whom I've never actually spoken to) for his thread "Solution: 3DO and Maximus Arcade within WinVista / Win7"
http://maximusarcade.com/forum/index.php?f=10&t=2041&hilit=3DO&rb_v=viewtopic
As this is where I learned to use and write scripts for the first time today. Well sort of, I don't really know too many commands.

Another post from janx on the original maximus board....
----------------------------------------------------------

I've added a little to the code so the cursor doesn't goto the bottom of the screen on reload.

Code: [Select]
Send, {F} {R}
Of course there are other keyboard shortcuts for American Light Games that can be added, such as {C}, used to recalibrate the crosshair...if you need to recalibrate every time you play.

I also changed my cursors in the game...My lightgun has laser sites on it, so I find the cursor in the game is not necessary, so I simply deleted the "cursor1.cur" file, so it no longer shows up. Then I changed the reload cursor, because it sucks, by replacing  "curson2.cur" in the install folder, with one I DO like. And I used an animated cursor which works too. Even thought the file extension for animated cursors is ".ani" it still works if you change the extension to ".cur"

For whatever reason the script you wrote wouldn't work for me.  However, I used this script:
Code: [Select]
run, CP.exe
sleep, 1000  ;
WinActivate, Crime Patrol
Send {F} {R}

CP.exe being the name of the executable and Crime Patrol being the "window name" if you hit alt tab to the window, also known as the game title.

Thanks for the tip though.  Sadly this code too, skips the intro video.

I got this code from asking on the autohotkey board on a similar issue, different game...

Props to them too!

More info from JanX!!!!
-------------------------------------------------------
Long overdue update:

Code: [Select]
SetCapslockState, OFF
RUN, CP.EXE
WinWait, Crime Patrol,
IfWinNotActive, Crime Patrol, ,  WinActivate, Crime Patrol,
WinWaitActive, Crime Patrol,
Send, {f}
SLEEP 41000
Send, {r}

This works best for me and seems to be completely fool proof now.

Read on for explaination of commands:

Why use "SetCapslockState, OFF"? Because American Laser Games will skip the intro video if caplocks is pressed.

Why "Send, (f)"? Goto fullscreen

Why "SLEEP 41000" and "Send, {r}"? Because the intro video for Crime Patrol is 41 seconds long. "Send, {r}" will turn off "move mouse or reaload". If "r" is pressed Before the intro video is done the command wont work.

The rest of the commands simply launch the game, and make sure NOT to send commands to CP UNTIL the window is open and running, regardless of the speed of your PC and how fast the game launches.
