The Lumberjackass:

hi,

ive been at M.A all day and night setting things up , and so far im doing ok  :-\
but the one thing thats doing my head in , is the fact that i have extra rom files showing up in the games list  :banghead:

an example :
i have gng and gnga roms , aka ghosts n goblins set.
gnga is the rom which is used to launch ghosts n goblins , but the problem is that the gng rom shows up in the list, without a snap.
i have to have gng in the roms folder because the game is a 2 part rom set and it wont work without it .
how do i sort out these roms from showing up in the list ? cheers.

and secondly , its not exactly M.A related , but i'll ask as someone will know ,
why is it , if you re-name the rom to ghosts n goblins , it wont work at all ?
i tried renaming several different others , eg , avsp was renamed to aliens vs predator etc etc and they just wouldnt work.

it just looks so untidy on the games list with the original rom file names .
im also depending heavily on the snap image to tell me what game is what and its a bit of a mare tbh.
any help or tips much appreciated :)

thanks for that nicky !!!
i will check out my settings first thing tomorrow morning and will update my progress later during the day by posting here .
ive done alot of finishing touches today so its just a matter of getting this rom duplicate / name system thingy fixed and i should be good to go :)

The Lumberjackass:
ok ive figured out the problem  :P

because i want alot of games to be playable, i set up 2 versions of mame on my cab.
and the reason why the duplicates and other roms were showing was because i had mame set up in different emulator slots.
i.e - i was using the msx 1.0 and 2.0 as mame 1 and mame 2 . hence i wasnt getting any joy with the name of each rom and
why duplicates were showing up.

i checked the mame emulator slot on M.A and tested it , and yes, the roms are showing up as proper names under that section.
also, the duplicates and the remaining sets are hidden. so i think i'll use the mame emulator list for version 1 of mame and msx 2.0 for mame 2.

the reason is, is because i use mame ver 118 as the main source because it plays most of my roms.
and i found that ver 136 and mame32 play my other rom's that cannot be played on ver 118 . so hence the 2 emulators.
wish M.A would come with another slot for mame , would be so handy .

thanks for the help anyways nicky , most appreciated  ;D

You should check out Multimame.  http://multimame.wikidot.com/

A few of us plan to start a thread soon on how to set it up as we figure it out.  But feel free to dive into it and post your findings.

cheers for that del

at the moment , ive worked it out that im going to use 3 versions of mame in total.

the mame slot will house ver136b and will play street fighter games only.
msx slot 1.0 will house ver118
msx slot 2.0 will house mame 32.

the reason ?
well , v118 plays my games in 4:3 aspect only through MA.
whereas mame32 will stretch the screen to fit the 16:9 aspect.
so ive created 2 slots , which are mirrored ( same roms in each slot ) and i can choose to play the game
in eye watering full widescreen mode , or , play it in an aspect which is easy on the eyes , eg 4 : 3.

im getting close to finishing off my custom theme so all i have left to do now is get MA to autoboot  ;D  :gobama
