« on: April 15, 2002, 07:19:07 pm »
Anyone know of a good source for buying old notebooks for cheap?

- must be working
- must be colour
- Preferably low speed Pentiums, or even 486s
- must have hard drive

- don't care about cracked cases
- don't care about batteries

thankies gang!

yeah, it's called eBay...  learn it, love it...

486 laptops go for like 20-30 bucks, fully working.  Or less.  depends on what you get.

Pentiums?  pretty darn good selection...  like 2 BILLION search hits...  too much to look through, if ya ask me.

so, yeah.     http://www.ebay.com   in case you live in a cave.   ;D

Ebay you say?  Whazzat?

Actually picked one up on Ebay for $40, but am looking for a source for several. i.e. quantity discounts... sorta like buy 50 of the obsolete suckers for 10 bux each type of thing.

heh heh...  figured you prob'ly had...

your next best bet is to grab your yellow pages and call up some independent computer tech companies...  sometimes those places just have STACKS of old crap laying around.  I know my brother's company just sorted and sold a BUNCH of old puters last month (sorry you didn't ask sooner)  but, there's gotta be some place stockpiling this junk (<---read:treasure)

let your fingers do the walking.   ;D

just for curiosity's sake...  what do you want these for?

Check the Lots-o-Stuff Garage sale for some more junk, Packrat :)..
Anywya, I do have a couple of laptops and one of then i use for my cabaret MAME. It runs in pure DOS and have the DOS soundcard Driver installed and yes eveything works. Its a P100 with 16MB ram and I think its a 340 HD.....don't remember. I use a 14" PC Monitor. This laptop had a broken LCD, so I ccuck the LCD and keep it like this for MAME....If interested LMK...Also maybe an alternative, I have Pentium Motherboards, and ISA Soundbalster Card etc... Check the Garage sale Maybe you see something you like... Email me if you don't see what your looking for....Oh yea the other laptop is 486/100 I think its AMD, and now has no HD and little memory but I can still get the memory for it so you can make it a total of I think 20MB...4MB built in, plus 16MB card...
