Almost done with this project.  Good news is the kit is in...bad news is that the control panel overlay is wider than the website shows  :banghead: in the product dimensions.  That being said the buttons fit with a slight modification to the edges which is taking longer than expected to modify.

If I were building this again - i would make the playing surface 26" wide instead of 24.5" wide.  That's the only thing I would change.  I will post final dimensions (of revised cab) in case anyone wants to build a version of this and pictures of all my final installation shots/completion pics.

Quick picture of the cab.  I still need to build the marquee tomorrow.

Awesome job!  I live on a golf course, and something like this would really be nice in my future man domain.

Do you have a link for just the golden tee unplugged kit that you got?  Also what was the cost?  You sparked my imagination, and I wouldn't mind trying something similar down the road and I just want to get a price point in my head.

Also, does the kit include the computer?  I'm assuming the kit doesn't come with all 100 games

What's your favorite games you got?

Thanks and congrats!

I just went to ITSgames.com and called to get an out of state dealer for the Offline Full Kit they have listed on their site.  That way I didn't have to pay sales tax.  >:D

http://www.itsgames.com/itsgames/Products/GoldenTee/GTUnplug2011/specs.jsp

The kit (which is a PC that includes the graphics, trackball, buttons, marquee) was about 2300.00 with shipping included.  Then you only need a TV, HDMI cable and cab.  I think the cab I built ended up costing about 100.  TV was 400 so everything was around 2800ish.

By 100 games - I mean played golden tee over 100 times already...sorry for the confusion.  The 2011 kit has the 5 new courses and a back catalog of old courses - 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 - 5 courses for each year.

That gives you 30 HD golf courses and hours of entertainment!  Good luck with your build!

Thanks Javeryh.  Sadly - it needs a new home.  I have an idea for a unique replacement but right now it is in the storage room waiting for a new owner.  I must say I haven't really tried to sell it yet...but it is inevitable.  I need to figure out how much it is worth first...maybe like 300 bucks??? I just don't know.

Actually - I have been meaning to upload this for others to use if they want.  Here is a rar file that has the scale templates for the side and swoosh in .VSD format.  You will need Visio and a plotter to print it out but it should be perfect for the Arch E setting on most plotters.

Happy building!  ;D

I just ordered GTG yesterday and I want to build a cabinet before it arrives. Do you have this cabinet drafted in CAD? If so, may I have the .dwg file?

That's look great/awsome.

Anyone built something similar but used a Wireless solution for Video?

How did you make the cuts for the T-Molds? Seriously, are you a cabinet builder by trade?  I have been coming back to this website for a month now and looking at it.  I really think i can do this.

Sorry - haven't checked in on this thread in a loooong time.  Thanks for all the positive feedback guys!

@pinballjim - screen size is great!

@Tinshooter - I am not a cabinet builder by trade...but thanks for that!  I used a 3 wing slotting cutter with my router to cut the slot for the t-molding.  I can't remember where - but I bought it with the T-molding.  It was a little pricey ($35) but it was worth it because it cuts a perfect slot.  Rockler has them. http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=2119&rrt=1

Here is a final picture of the Marquee and this machine has been upgraded to 2013 too.

Awesome cab! Just built a computer for something like this and will be attempting to copy right off you! If I take your file to a kinko's do you think they would be capable of printing me the template? Also what kind of rig (truck) are you running in the back ground? Look tough, I have an FJ40 I'm trying to restore. Thanks- Don

Just curious when you bought the kit, did it come with the controls? And if it did where they already installed on a board or did you have to drill holes for buttons and router out an are for the trackball?

Evidently you can't buy these kits from ITS anymore.  Does anyone know what's in them?  Is it just like a MAME project where it's a motherboard, hard drive, and controller board and then you just build the cabinet around that?
Any pictures of the inside?
Thanks in advance!

That is curious.  I bought mine directly as a full offline kit.  I would call them back and ask if you can still buy the full offline kit through a distributor.  The full offline kit is actually just a computer.  It comes with 2 other boards that look like mini motherboards and it also comes with the control panel graphic, trackball and buttons.  I hope this is not the case because I am about to build this pedestal again but put Power Putt in it.  If they are only selling to commercial use then I will just have to get my buddy that owns a company to buy it for me...we shall see.

Thanks ids!!

thejuan - yes it did but I had to drill the holes for the buttons and trackball.  Yes, I also had to use a router to seat the trackball.

Ya, since I posted that I found an online retailer but it's $2600-$2700!  Was hoping to build everything myself for less than $1000.

Jikkjack, I have a couple of questions;

How did you attach the overlay to the control panel; is it just hot glued on there?  I know the IT made cabinet don't have them screwed in, but not sure how they do it.

Do you have any kind of levelers on the bottom of the game, if so, what kind?

Did you just decide to throw the coin acceptor in there just for the heck of it?

Did you ever decide to start doing flat packs for those that want them?  That would be awesome for those of us inept at wood working....

I haven't really thought about that but I guess I could do that if it wouldn't cost too much and enough people were interested.  I still have the original wood templates.  How many people would be interested in a flat pack of the sides, swooshes, dowels, firing strips, front and back panels?

Since I have never really researched this before, typically how much does a flat pack sell for?  I am happy to itemize the cost of materials and shipping then come up with a fixed flat rate for my time and keep it reasonable for the DIY crowd if enough interest is generated.   :)
