So there haven't been many puzzle games picked in the 45 competitions so far and puzzle bobble is my absolute favorite!

Competition #46 is Puzzle Bobble (Bust-A-Move)

ROMSet: pbobble or pbobblen (Japanese/English) I don't think there's any differences in difficulty or scoring but if anyone knows of any let me know, I will be playing with pbobblen.

DEFAULT DIP Switch Settings:

Test Switch: Off
Coin Chutes: 2
Autofire (in some games): Off
Comm Setting: Off
Free Play: Whatever
Freeze: Off

----------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------

- One credit only.

- No continues!

- No MAME cheats!

- Last day is Wednesday July 7th (11:59:59pm Pacific Daylight Time), 2010.

- High score wins.

- No savestates, savestate practices, etc. during the round.

- MAME INP recordings are optional, but encouraged!

- A screenshot is required to enter a score (press F12 to save screenshot showing your final score) or take a photo of the screen if playing on a real machine.

- If you're a MARP competitor on this title, keep in mind this is just a friendly competition amongst forum members, so maybe you shouldn't enter. However, if you're a forum member and this is a game you're good at and nobody knows about it, this is your time to shine!

- Even if you don't have a competitive score or if you don't *think* that you have a competitive score, please post it anyway to keep the thread fun & to give everybody a good sense of score ranges.

Good luck!

Well I guess I'll start it off. If I win I will let the 2nd place person pick as usual. This was my first try, had a pretty good run, lost on lvl 16 to a crappy error on my part.

Wow, I played 3 games last night & topped out at 170k.  I was playing pbboblen.

Were you playing the other version, Hewskie?  Is it easier?

Or am I just lousy???   :'(

Thanks,

That is the one I played and they same the same difficulty wise.  Im pretty sure the breakthrough is getting large chains to fall but i think I need to play a few dozen more games first :)

Epyx is right, you need to create big chains that touch both sides that are then destroyed with one shot. Here's an example of a chain that I made on the first round. You can score about 1.3 million for destroying a chain.

Hey, I was getting a little worried that nobody liked this game!

@jasonbar - nope, I was using pbobblen

@epyx - You're absolutely right, when you get a little further, lvl 10 or so, there's a few levels that can easily be broken with one bubble netting you over 1 million points. The trick is knowing which levels you have to just try to stay alive and beat and which levels you can go for the money shot!

@quarterstringer - wow, 1.3 mil on the first level! that's a pretty good start

Keep it up guys, like I said I won't claim victory on this one so it's up in the air

OK, I got 1 big chain reaction.  That netted about 1.3M on that move alone.  Score: 1.5M.  Every other move you make in the game is absolute peanuts compared to the big ones.  Can't make it past level 8 yet...

Here is a great Youtube video that shows a lot of scoring tips:

Look at round 9...one easy shot and 1.5m so you that appears to be the key...back to the drawing board now...again great game choice.

The player in the videos is a great shotmaker but he isn't creating any big chains to get the 1.3 million bonus. Here's my score - 3,430,320. I didn't create any chains, I was just trying to finish the game. The game ends at round 30 and I choked and didn't complete the last round.

I'm getting pretty good at getting some big fat scores on round 2.

Why does the bottom of my screen say "LEVEL - 4" all the time, instead of showing the round #, as it does in the videos & screenshots above?

Anyway, made it to 3,010,910 tonight.  Boy, this music drives me nuts after a while!   :dizzy:

I've played this game for years and I was always so focused on just clearing the levels, it never occured to me to stack extra bubbles for a higher score.   :-[

But now that I know that...

On my last session, I got many scores in the 2-3M range.  OK, I think it's time to stop trying for me on this contest!   :hissy:

In the ArcadeSpain forum you can try to improve any record of the games that have been played. You can search the forum in google (Retos ArcadeSpain).
You can see the records here.
