Arcade games extinct (Article on Cracked.com)

Pac-man is for girls (and don't they actually like it the most of all the arcade games?) I'll take space invaders over pac-man any time of the day. I feel macho now!  :)

The article had its amusing bits, but I'd like to slap the kid.

On the rare occasion that I do see an arcade in the wild, it is usually pretty packed.  Maybe not as much as they were when I was a kid in the 80s, but certainly not what I'd call "dead."  I know it's pretty typical to state that arcades are "dead," and by comparison, they are, but this article was a gross exaggeration of the truth.

I also don't care for the statement that the Neo Geo wasn't affordable by "real people."  The only difference between that system and, say, the PS3 is that there are more hard-working adults willing to shell out for a game system.  It was just too expensive for the market at the time; it wasn't outrageously priced by today's standards.

Anyway, can't expect too much from a site like this; judging from the comments ("wow your hand can read!" [sic]), its audience is mostly adolescents.  Reminds me of Destructoid. *shiver*

In case this is news to anyone, I work in a video game store.  If the number of "Arcade Revisited" games on the market and continuously re-released is any indicator then this article is so much malarkey it should run for office.

The Neo-Geo comment was priceless though.  I hear that all the time, "PS3/360 cost to damn much - I remember when NES came out.."  I finally got sick of hearing that one day and googled up the release price of an NES and plugged it into an inflation calculator.  Guess what?  The NES at launch cost MORE than the PS3 did at launch.  Go figure.

I'd also have to disagree with the Space Invaders bit - frankly, I can't stand Pac-Man but nothing screams ARCADE!!!! more than that little yellow freak.  Ah well.  I decided years ago most of society are monkeys barely able to feed themselves without flinging poo at each other, and I've yet to see evidence otherwise.
Benevolance:
The piece is obviously tongue-in-cheek and hardly at all serious. Gross hyperbole is to be expected. Journalist merits really need not apply. :P
nitz:
As others have indicated, unlikely that this is someone who was around for the heyday of arcade games (probably not even old enough to remember the '90s fighting game craze with any sincerity) and definitely not someone who has a lot of love for them. I have a sense of humor and I poke fun at stuff I love all the time, but this seemed kinda negative. I did smile a couple times I guess, but it was funny in a kinda sad way rather than a haha funny way.
