Good going, Syph007.  Now we got ourselves a competition happening.  Not a dead competition after all!  :)

Guess I better have at it some more & see if I can get ya!

Thanks,
-Jason

I spent about 1hr w/ SoP this morn before I had a breakthrough game.  I just couldn't break 50,000 for a while.  Those darn saucers on level 2 kept painting me into a corner--I couldn't deal with them.

Then I realized that this is an 8-way stick game, not a 2-way stick game!!!    :banghead:  And I'd made this same mistake in my first go-round last week.   :banghead:

Once I figured that out, the game got easier, but I still couldn't break 60k or so.

Then, I got the big breakthrough game.  After beating the 2nd level boss, the difficulty seems to drop off noticeably, & the points start coming on faster, so getting those 50k bonus guys starts happening faster too.

So, here's my return salvo: 232,640.   ;D

Ha, I didn't think it would take too long for you to pass me.  I don't know if I can get anywhere near that, but I'll give it a go.

Edit:  I can't even give it a go now... my graphics card died in my cab... bought a replacement off ebay, but I won't have it any time soon...  :hissy:

I remember seeing this in the arcade as Son of Phoenix. The graphics were initially alluring, but I thought it was boring. I still prefer the first Phoenix.

I don't think this is sequel to phoenix.

I agree as to the game being on a boring side. What attracted me to it though, was the fact that it was rather easy and I could play on one coin for awhile unlike lets say defender, which is far superior in gameplay (imho) to this game, but the problem with defender of course was that it lasted a whopping 30 sec. for me. Which I ended up greatly admiring from over shoulders of other more "talented" kids.

Aside from this, I've got a slight challenge for Jasonbar or anyone willig to participate in this competition. I just realized even though I cannot compete in my own competition I'm going to push the envelope for him (and others) and steal just a little bit of their glory.
Jasonbar You might be a potential winner here (or not), but... there is that other thread... the all time winners by Epyx. And wouldn't it sucked if you were never there!? HAHAHAhhahaahha  >:D
I already posted a score but no picture and since I managed to press F3 and erase it, I'll try soon again for better with a proof so I can bask in an eternal glory. Till then good luck! :lol :bump

I got my cab back in working order thanks to some more thermal epoxy and an oversized heatsink.   All my scores are below 150k, except I just now got one in the 200k range... trying again, then I'll post a screenshot.   It really does get easier once you get past level 3 I think and the points and bonus lives come faster.

Oh.. and my best score was in a game I died on the first level once.. just goes to show to me, always play the quarter (token) out and resist the urge to restart if you die right away.

Another hour or so netted 267,490.  But it involved a lot of cursing & pounding the control panel.  Not fun.  You'd think such a pear-shaped ship w/ those giant thrusters would move at more than a snail's pace.  Bah.

I think I got a bonus free guy in there somewhere for shooting that weird explosion of streaming confetti on level 4...?

Hooray for me.  I'll pick a newish game to please the youngsters.  Give me a couple of days--I'm swamped!

Thanks,
-Jason

just for the record, Ive tried pretty much every game in the competition series, but I usually don't post my score because its not higher then the current posted one. If you'd like I can post up my embarrassingly low scores so you know more then 5 ppl are playing the games.  Maybe Saint can post some sort of news snippet?
