if you get an n64 wheel Beetle Adventure Racing is awesome.  Yeah, it's only Beetles.  EA said they weren;t going to have an official MFS on the N64.  But BAR is NFS3 engine so it's pretty good.

Terisphere is a good 2 person game.

Since alot of games need the analog it's tough to find a cab friendly.  The N64 was a little lacking on the fighter side.

I don't have too many N64 games but I still play them often.  I have 8 of the IGN top 10 N64 games :)  Hmmm, playing Conker on a cab, that's sounds entriguing.

Terisphere is a good 2 person game.

The last time I played Tetrisphere on my pc (over a year ago) the sound was messed up.  Was I using the wrong sound plugin or was it the emulator I was using?
My favorite N64 game.

I beat Mario 64 on my old cabinet using just and 8-way Wico joystick and the 6 buttons that were installed. Granted it was more difficult than using an analog stick, but it was certainly playable.

Ok sense I had some many replies (thanks), I ammend the post and say what good 64 games are there that are cab friendly (no analog required, cause that cant be emulated right?) and what emu works good for it (pj64 worked good for say zelda, but not mario kart for me). Thanks for all the replies

64 did lack a bit on fighters, but it had a few gems. MK4 was decent, I like the n64 MK Trilogy a real lot, too. IMHO, it's better then the psx one because you play more then it loads... just an odd prefrence of mine ;]
MK Anthologys wouldn't be bad, either. Very solid side scroiller.
I remember really enjoying mace the dark age. If you're going after rush, there was a DC version too, which was a good deal prettier (but if you're talking emu only here, that's out of the queston). Mischeif(sp) makers would work good on a cab. You may be able to get away with yoshi's story too.

MMmmm... lots of fond memories. Maby the 64 will get dusted off later tonight :)

What emulator are you guys using?  Currently, I don't have the n64 on my cab.  I tried p64 w/ mariokart and had no luck.

It gave me a blank screen and an error log that said:

[9:04:55 PM  3/8/2003] Error 0x887601C2 - Error deleting zbuffer attachment.

Mariokart on a cab maybe sweet...but I am not sure about the controls.

Why would you play the n64 port when the orininal arcade works great in mame?  Does it have more features?

I still want to hack an analog flight stick with a ball top or something for consoles.  But I'm not sure if it will really work with the other buttons.

Anyone with an analog flight stick ever try getting buttons setup so that you can play console games well?

Here is the problem with virtually every game mentioned so far.

#1.  Most use the analog stick (even if it isn't required), which means forget about playing them properly.

#2.  Those that are cab friendly either have emulation issues (mk4, mkt).

#3.  Or are available in a better format.  (mk4 has a pc version, and as lilwolf said, there is a perfect arcade version of rampage wt in mame.)

So answering your question....

Yes there are several n64 games worth playing.

But literally none of the ones mentioned so far are suitable on a mame cab.  Every single one mentioned falls into one or all of the three issues I listed above.

So if you want to play these games I suggest that you whip out a n64 and play them.  N64 emulation is sketchy at best, and even if it weren't, an arcade panel isn't well suited to play them with.

If you're using a real N64 you could try hacking an Interact Arcade Shark joystick, the center joystick is analog.

Heh..just to clarify this with everyone, Project 64 is the best Nintendo 64 emulator, it supports the most games and has a plugin system to match your hardware. So if it doesn't work, try messing with the plugins, also make sure you have the latest version (http://project64.c64.org/). UltraHLE was the first N64 emulator so it doesn't play as many games as P64...if you still want to use it, your video card has to support Glide Rendering (Voodoo Series GFX Cards..) or you could find a glide wrapper if your graphics card doesn't support glide.

Interesting.... Do you have a link to a page on this?  A small analog stick would be great for cnsole projects.  They might actually be playable. :)  I'll be honest though, that doesn't look analog at all.  Just because it uses the analog port for input doesn't make it analog.

Nevermind.... an except of it's description.

"Memory card slot. Versatile design features a removable joystick that can be placed in either digital or analog control port for the best control in any type of game."

Translation:  The controller has two large d-pads and you have a plastic joystick top you can clip on top of either one.

In other words it's not analog, it's digital.

heh, wrong emulator dude. thats Project 64, an emu for the Comodore 64.  ;) in fact, the homepage for the N64 emulator is www.pj64.net
the rest of your info looks good tho, i doubt that you would need those kinda plugins for c64.

There are ways to attach an N64 controller to your cab:

There are also USB to PSX adapters and others...

But literally none of the ones mentioned so far are suitable on a mame cab.

Every game? mace the dark age is fine, yoshi's story is fine, kirby64 is fine, and I've never tried the following in an emulator, but I can imagen they'd be fine, mischeif makers, and pokemon puzzle league. Mario kart is a bit cruddy with no analog, but it's fine.

If you didn't like the body of the games or the system it self (which seems to be more of the case) it's one thing, but there are plenty of perfictly good n64 titles which would work fine in a cab.

I did not know there was an arcade version of rampage world tour.

First off I LOVE the n64 so much so that I refused to buy a playstation due to it's inferior games.  But this is about playing console games on an arcade cab, which in general, is a dumb idea.

Secondly all of the games you mentioned have emulation issues.   Cept mario kart, which I've already addressed if you'd look.   I thought I made it very clear that n64 emulation is very incomplete.  Zelda doesn't even run well on it and it's a flagship game.    Of course some n64 emus will run games that others can't, but those can't run the games that run on the first. If you want to spread these games across 6 or 7 emus then you might get more of those games running.

Next time make sure you know what you are talking about before you question me.  ;)

Thank you for playing! (copyright 1984 planetjay)
