I don't know what it is about your avatar ShateredSoul, it could just be that you go by ShatteredSoul, but that avatar creeps me out.

For example in a game using only 2 buttons, do you map them to the first 2 on the top or bottom row in a 6 button layout?

Something like this?

I always start on the top left because that's where people's hands automatically go.
I flip the top and bottom rows from the original controller since the bottom buttons on the original controller were used more.
It feels right and isn't as confusing as it sounds.

Really? Everyone I know just assumes the bottom row on mine, and they're right.

I mean there cant be many games that use 7 buttons.

The mortal kombat games have the 'run' button in a similar place to the 1st neo geo button, but yeah cant even think of any arcade games that use 7 buttons

the "7th neogeo button" is also great for most 3 button jamma games (using Neogeo's ABC) especially in games like NBA Jam, NBA HangTime, NHL Open Ice,etc, etc
