Snap. It could just be the animation style they've used or this particular game's look, but it now looks like standard animation or a hand-drawn JAVA browser-game, which kills some of it's appeal if you ask me. SF2 HD remix was the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, but not all games will work with this new spin on things, and personally I think they should have chosen a less 'cartoony' game or style. Donkey Kong Country updated to high-res would look awesome for example, as it would enhance the 3D modelling they tried to achieve without polygons on the SNES.

Personally I think they should go for Turtles or Simpsons, with a 'Viewtiful Joe' animation style.

god I though I was getting old...
you make me feel young again, thanks  ;)

I dunno I kinda always though of video games as cartoons rendered on the computer technology of the time
Remember how Dragon's Lair blew everyone away with the way it looked (although the game play wasn't that great)

Exactly how I feel. I really love the idea of making sprite characters more animated, and when technology got better, games did just that. Look at games like Earthworm Jim, or Aladdin for snes/genesis period.  Amazing sprite animation, so charming and life-like.

Even the animated quality between Street Fighter II and Street Fighter III can speak for itself.

Truthfully, I wasn't a fan of the Super Street Fighter II HD remake, as it just looked like they traced the old sprites without trying to clean up some of the proportion problems that you can get away with when at a lower pixel resolutions.

Dragon's Lair was awesome, but it was purely Don Bluth animated sequences, cut together by "quick-time" moments. Not necessarily as interactive and responsive.

I like the new look of Toki. Mostly because I thought that the original Toki wasn't animated enough for my tastes. For a character that looked that full in design, be that like-able, i felt it was a shame to see him move fairly static and stiff. It was like controlling a robot monkey sometimes.

That being said, I'm also happy they didn't go the 2.5D route (3D art on a 2D plain) with this title. It worked for Bionic Commando Rearmed, and possibly going to work for the new Rush n' Attack...but for Toki, actual high quality imagery in 2D was a solid choice.

I would love this on my cab!

I played through it again recently, what a ---smurfette--- the end boss is!

I always though Dragon's Lair was one of cleverest (is that a word?) workarounds for the limited technology of the time
