Dimensions for this pedestal cabinet (funglo?)
« on: April 05, 2010, 10:44:50 pm »
It might not suit everyone's tastes, but I really like the looks of it.  8)

Problem is, I've never seen one in person.   And starting to plan a cut-list for one without any measurements is proving a bit tough.

Has anyone out there ever taken a tape-measure to a cab like this?  Or have one available that they could get a few measurements from?

Even a picture of one next to something I could scale it to would help.

Thanks in advance.

Couldn't you use the coin doors as reference?  Those are fairly standard,  so if you know the dimensions of the doors then you should be able to get a reasonably accurate set of estimates from the picture.  Should give you height easily,  and width looks to be about 1.25 or 1.5 times the width of the coin door.

Looks like you should be able to get very close to the correct measurements if you know the dimensions of the coin door,  everything looks like it's proportioned in relation to the doors there.

Gatt:
I hadn't thought of scaling the dimensions from the coin door.  That's a really good idea.
I found one on happs that is looks like the one shown.  It measures about 10x20.  I think I should be able to get close from those.  At least for the height and width pieces.

YoGaBar:
I did see the HxWxD measurements on the site, probably should have mentioned those in my post.  they got me started, but weren't enough to figure out some of the interior pieces.  I'll definitly use them to double-check the coin-door scaled measurements.

If I get measurements that look good in a mock-up, I'll be sure to post them.  I like the look of this cabinet, but have a feeling that if I don't get the ratios very close to the original, it won't look good at all.

Thanks for all the help and advice.

I know it sounds silly, but grab some cardboard and build a mock up.  Cut those to size and then simply measure the pieces you made.   :applaud:

Also, have you considered using Sketch Up to design something.  Or perhaps someone who's really adept at using it can help you here?

Good luck!

Make sure you make it tall enough for you to play in comfort.  Nothing worse than hunched over a build giving you backache.

37-55" I suppose it depends on if you will hang the TV on the wall or not

If you plan on using the bezel artwork in MAME (which looks nice on an HDTV, I think), you should consider going with a bigger TV. I went with a 47", and with the artwork, I can get really close to the original size of the game inside the bezel.

Drop the photo in sketchup, aling the axis, then measure a dimension you know. Should be able to trace the shape of hte cab and get measurements that way!

That pedestal design is the one I have wanted to build since I got the 36" Trini.

Didn't realize there was a SketchUp file for the pedestal from DeeGor - http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=155462.0

The file has all the measurements and angles.
