Slingshot Machine Gun
« on: March 02, 2010, 04:44:15 pm »
One of my slingshot kicker solonoids fires rapidly for about 5 seconds after the ball hits the bumper to trigger it. I am guessing it is a problem where the rubber is triggering the switch when the kicker returns to its resting position. But the switches seem to have a decently sized gap when the rubber is at rest.

What might this be? Is there a capacitor on the switch leads to slow the response that might be bad? It is a new rubber ring - could it be too loose?

Sounds like your rubber may actually be too tight.  Just gap the switches a little bit more and you'll be good to go.

I had this same issue with my Taxi after a shop job and this was the cure.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. What about a flipper coil that sticks in the energized position until you hit the flipper button a few times? I'm fairly sure it's not mechanically stuck, as there is no friction when I move it to the extremes. And the eos switch is opening when the pawl pushes it.

A friend had the exact same issue on his MotorDome pin. I fixed it by adjusting the switch gap and cleaning the contacts.

Adjusting the gap on the switches seems to have done the trick. The flippers haven't stuck since, so I have yet to dig deeper into that issue. Thanks!

Cleaning the contacts accomplished nothing.  The problem was too much contact, not lack of contact.   ;)

Glad to hear it's working out for you, Neverending.

Probably not, but if you are already there one more simple maintenance step is just good practice. Yeah, how dare I clean contacts. That was soooooo stupid... ::)
