At least it is the only machine you can get to boot decent without crap being displayed. And a Mini has not a bad price for a very capable emu system.

$600, are you joking?  You can easily build a barebones PC for under $200.

With all the same specs (wifi, gigabit, DVD burner, FW800, BT, 9400M, Core2Duo, silent) and a legal OS install? You are joking!

The 100$ you will save on the mini is an amount I want to spent extra for No-TEXT booting, no FUGLLY case, better energy use and no hassle silent operation. 2 hours of assembly and installing windows is 2x 70$ or so too!

MAME is on the iPod Touch and iPhone.

NES, SNES, and N64 too.

As the iPad is jailbroken as mentioned earlier it probably works. The question is where to buy a cheap Wii-mote?
