Space Paranoids Cocktail Art
« on: March 17, 2010, 02:33:20 pm »
Hi everyone,

I'm working on building a cocktail cabinet and recently came across some pictures of a Space Paranoids cabinet. So now I'm trying to create some artwork in the same style. I created a first version but it's not finished yet, so I would really appreciate any comments or suggestions...

This is my work in progress:

This is the cabinet (picture from Comic Con):

AWESOME!

I would probably put a black/blue gradient instead of just the black and also add the light blue and dark blue strokes inside of the red one you currently have, just to fit the theme more. I would also fade the red stroke to purple, like the cab.

TBH you are nearly there! It is an awesome effort and looks great! :applaud:

Will you be making it available for DL? If so, I can show you what I mean if you are unsure. (I am a DL junky >:D)

Those are great suggestions...I'm going to make some changes tonight and post the result. And if I have the time I'll also start on the control panel art.

When it's done I'll also make it available for download...

I worked on some of the changes that thatitalian suggested. So now I have a gradient background and a multicolor outline. I'm still not happy with the circle thingy behind the "Recognizer"...

What happened to it? Did you change the colour? It should be a lot lighter, it has disappeared...

I would also stick a few more stripes in there like the cab (blocks of blue in the background)

Alright, that is already better. Maybe adding the blocks/stripes design in the background? It would break up the solid colour.

this is where i stop agreeing, your suggestions have been bang on so far, but i think as it stands now it feels original. its like a pac cocktail looks compared to the pac cab, a lot more stripped back but retaining the main themes of the design. i think it could get busy with the extra work

I was wondering about that. The pacman/ms pacman and galaga underlays are mostly black, but still look great.

Or this one...just one logo...lot's of black...but it looks amazing

i like the look of the gradient in there, its just a little slicker than the black , i like the border in this case as i think it brings the images together if that makes sense, but i wouldn't go any less or more than the last one you posted, it looks ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- hot as they say around these parts

i think what i mean is, without the border it would look a little like someone had got busy with some nice stickers they found, as opposed to an actual purpose made design

Hehe. ;D

It does look sexy. I would just like to see how the block design looks. If it looked terrible then this design would easily do the business.

The last thing I would want is for it to look busy... it kills the art. To be fair, this does look very very sweet.

@Polaris and @ThatItalian

I do appreciate all your comments. I'm going to try something with the blocks and I also have an idea about using some grids/lines...Hopefully I can post some stuff tonight.

I used photoshop to create a picture of how the artwork will look when it's on the cabinet. Still have to do some work on the control panel art. But I'm happy with the top of the cab.

That looks fantastic, great work. Especially like the grid addition

I was looking for space paranoids artwork a while back on here. I've just bought a new place and may have to replace my upright machine (bit of a sore point haha) with a cocktail cabinet and would love to be able to use your artwork if it was available. Do you think you'll upload the psd files eventually?

Thanks!

Maybe I can help you with that. I have most of the elements you see on the original. And since the Recognizer is a 3d model, I can render it from different angles.

Greetings program, a cool idea for this artwork is if you could find a print shop that could print this using florescent ink for all the reds an blues. If you remember some parts of the original Tron arcade game art work were printed like this and the game glowed like the everything in the movie. You did a great job with this but that would make it look even more awesome!!   -End of line-

I had the artwork printed a couple of week ago. Just standard ink. But I like the idea of the fluorescent ink, although it would probably be very expensive. Maybe I can trace the gridpattern with some sort of fluorescent pen???? I'll have to look into that.

I'll post some pictures of the finished cabinet soon...

I have one other suggestion that you could add to this art for others that will be downloading it and using it in the future. Work the Encom company logo into the artwork some how, and add a phoney copy write logo from the 80's like this guy did who made this Encom Tron arcade marquee. His says programed kevin flynn very cool!!

BUMP!  I want to do an Arcade1up Space Paranoids cabinet and could use this artwork to do it. Somebody made a request for the Side art - was that ever completed? Please PM me if there is artwork available to make this happen - either I can rework it for the arcade1up dimensions or someone else can.
