No paper promotions here. It's at the YMCA so there's no profit motive in the dojo. Took 5 years for me to get here. I do not by any means consider myself a lethal weapon, but what I've learned I've honestly learned. Over the 5 years I've been laid out with bruised ribs (having had bruised ribs, please shoot me if I ever break one. Worst pain in my life ever), tore my planterus muscle in my left leg, and now whatever I've done to my right ankle. Aside from that though I'm in probably the best physical shape of my life, more flexible than the first 35 years of my life, can clear 8 feet in a dive roll, and also know some self defense as well :)
That said, I have much much to learn. Black belt is just the beginning.

or break it fighting off a bear?

Heh. I did fall through the roof, same foot. Probably should have taken that as an omen!

The reality of combat, is that you do not take chances being "Nice". If you do,
you will more than likely end up a corpse when someone with real bad intent
attacks you.
Saint, Best wishes for a speedy & full recovery.
(PS - Better to Kick with the heel/ball, and not the top of the foot)

someone so deadly should know that it is actually better you kick with the lower shin.
most the time in a real fight your not going to get away with too many ax kicks unless they stand there for ya.
a straight kick to the stomach works sometime's for a heel kick but the shin is what most pro fighter's use as heel kicks are very limted and mostly a risky take against real people outside the movies.
Xiaou2:
I preform a lead leg diagonal Stomp kick to the attackers knee / shin.
Ive fought plenty of skilled fighters of multiple arts, and had little problem landing it...
and, only due to his consistent disrespect over a period of several months, I nearly broke
a guys knee in a sparring match in 1 second flat. (a man twice my mass, grasping his
knee, rolling in the fetal position Crying for over 5 min) I put only about 30% power into it,
and it took him several months to heal fully from it.
Shin kicks are not very effective. Hence why you see countless MMA shin kicks, and
both fighters are still standing.
The problem with Shin kicks, besides the fact that you can break/hurt your own shin in
the process... is that they are round, and as the kick starts to land, the opp can allow his
leg to bend and absorb in that same direction... thus reducing its power / damages vastly. Also,
round kicks with damage power are usually thrown from the rear leg, and a slow wide arc, making
them much easier to read and avoid.
You can also take a quick sidestep to the opposite side of the kick, taking away almost all
its power.
However, a straight kick against the knee/shin is much harder to evade and
can not be "absorbed". It can be quick as a fast jab, nearly unseen to the eye.. and land
with enough power to stop a fight instantly.
Ohh, I almost forgot... A shin kick is also usually landing on the Fleshy part of a leg.
Muscle can take a good amount of abuse. However, damage directly to a joint is 100x worse.
The stuff you see on TV, is just that. Its sport games. Not real combat. I dont play games.
I train for real life / death situations... where split seconds and maximum potentials are a must.
