Xiaou2:
--- Quote ---I disagree with you there Xiaou. Im a fan of the old MD stuff like, RIP, and countdown to extinction, but their newer stuff just sounds like they are trying to cram too much stuff into them. Kinda like "hey look we can play guitar really fast, we are still relevent right?"
--- End quote ---
This depends on what New you are talking about? As far as Im concerned, I really
liked United Abominations... but was not hot on "Endgame". UA features guitar riffs
from Glen Drover, which were decent, but of course no comparison to Marty Friedman.
The new stuff on Endgame, by Chris Broaderick. Chris is a great technical player...
but he seems to have no soul. The solos are random fast whailing... but no emotional
content... which surely had a negative effect on Endgame development. Even
the new drummer is too robotic. Nothing like Menza, not even close.
Before UA, "The System has Failed" also has some great tracks.
My Favs probably being Countdown & RIP. They stomp all Metallicas creations Imop.
I used to listen to Metallica all the time, now its a real rarity. I couldnt care if I ever
heard them again honestly.
--- Quote --- I dunno, Im a rabid Metallica fan so Im also going to disagree that Death Magnetic is crappy. Yeah, granted, Load and Reload werent as good as their other albums, but no band makes flawless albums every time they release a record. Megadeth is a perfect example of that.
--- End quote ---
DM is crap. Its more like what you said... Just playing fast with no purpose or meaning.
One of their songs was like 3 songs mixed together in a really poor way. Its hideous.
And if you want to puke, watch their documentary "Some kind of monster". In it
you can see Kirk cant even follow a simple guitar riff that James lays down. And
then watch them argue over their crappy songs about how they shouldnt do this
because it sounds like something from the past. I lost all respect for them after watching
that. They simply dont have "it" anymore. And James, hes the worst. I cant stand his
new singing style. He has no range, hes amateur, hes crap.. and so are the lyrics.
He probably would do just fine singing Country Music. ugg
--- Quote --- There were a few good songs on each record, but over all, that time period in Metallica's history was whack. Then again, look at the rest of music the time those albums came out. Everything sucked at the time.
--- End quote ---
Thats pure fanboy talk. You simply are not being objective or realistic at all.
--- Quote ---Besides, every album up until black (which is still an awesome album, just listen to the damn lyrics) blows past Countdown or RIP imo.
--- End quote ---
LOL. Now I know you are Trolling. Black is simplistic and boring. Almost all the songs
sound exactly the same. The solos are lame. Its all very generic. And "Enter Sandman" Come on. Its a fricken baby lullaby. Daves lyrics in countdown stomp all that album...
let alone RIP. RIP having some of the most complex and incredibly sounding guitar solos
ever layed down. Nothing Kirk has ever layed down can compare to anything in RIP.
Let alone to Countdowns more limited solos.
--- Quote ---Dave Mustaine even admits that Master is better than most of his albums.
--- End quote ---
Bleh. IMOP, Thats a load. Dave underestimates his own material. Master, like most of
their older material, just does not hold up over the years. It gets old. More
suited to angry youth... and thats about it. Its too raw & ugly sounding.
The solos just are not as good sounding as Megadeths, which can be played over and
over again without getting tied of them. More polished, more feeling, not "ugly" sounding
or raw.
--- Quote ---The reason why Megadeth doesnt sell as much is because they didnt evolve like Metallica did.
--- End quote ---
Its not really true. It was more to do with Radio Airtime. Metallica came out with a
"Less Ugly" sounding album (black), and radio stations decided it was tame enough
to play, and thus attract a wider audience.
Metallica didnt really evolve. All they did was cut out long complex solos. Which
worked in their favor, cause Kirks solos were not really that good sounding. Ohh, and
James learned how to sing, which also wasnt good, because the new style
(as well as the missing riffs) pretty much lost most of the metal fans).
--- Quote ---And their music just isnt as good.
--- End quote ---
Bwahahaha.
--- Quote ---I personally like Death Magnetic. It sure as hell doesnt sound as sloppy and chaotic as St. Anger. That album was a mess. They got their ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- straight and released a new album that kicks ass.
--- End quote ---
The problem with the fanboys, is that they dont want to admit things. When Metallica
releases an album with Nursery Rhymes, the fanboys will still buy it without even
hearing it first. Its pretty pathetic actually.
I bought Load, and that was the last time I bought a Metallica CD. Black was
nowhere near as technical or deep as their previous stuff, and now they sounded
like a country band. Everything after, was a bad joke. The stuff they played would have
gotten them Booed off stage if it were not for their name. It also never would have
gotten them fame that the original material got them.
DM is a nightmare. Its like a bunch of random guitar parts all stitched together, with
a drum machine backing it. At least in their early days, the guitar sections actually blended into the song well. They could play entire musical sections, like "Orion", and it was good. Now? They are too burnt out to make anything that sounds coherent and good. Wake up and smell the Failure. They are not even a dust particle of their former past compositional and playing ability.
It makes you wonder if the real talent "was" some studio musicians and editors.
Either that or they just have drank and drugged their ability right out the window.
Ginsu Victim:
Wow, I agree with everything you just said, except I don't like anything after Rust in Peace (which is one of my favorite albums ever made, and, yes, better than anything Metallica ever did).
I mean, there's stuff here and there I'm okay with after RIP, but there isn't an album I point to and say, "I like that album," just certain tracks.

You really think that Countdown is better than Justice, or Master, or RTL? Cmon. There arent nearly as many cool tracks as the other albums I have listed. Foreclosure of a dream? That song is whack. I love me some Ashes in your Mouth, countdown also rocks, but I feel like that album is Megadeth's Black album.
Its funny Xiaou because you label me as the fanboy, but obviously youre the fanboy for Megadeth. You are way more interested in guitar then me, so yeah, maybe the new Megadeth albums have more guitar solos/faster guitar, but I dont really care about that. I mean, I love a good solo, especially when it goes with the song, but I dont know anything about composition, how hard it is to execute, etc.
The ongoing Metallica vs Megadeth debate will go on for ages. Its rather pointless to argue, because I have argued about it so much, Im starting to not really care :dunno All I know is that I like Metallica better, and if Megadeth announced their retirement, I could hardly care less. Dave Mustaines voice gets really annoying if not taken in small doses. I met the dude at starbucks up in Carlsbad. He seems cool, but he doesnt seem to know he isnt that much of a big deal anymore. I think he is trapped in the 80's.
There are more Metallica fans than Megadeth fans though. Doesnt make em a "better" band, but...
Who sells out everywhere they play?
Who plays bigger arenas?
Who makes more money?
What band makes the covers of all the relevent metal magazines?
How many kids do you see walking around with Metallica shirts vs Megadeth shirts? (Which I find weird, a bunch of punk kids I saw at the mall were all rocking metallica shirts, hot topic must of had a sale or something)
Its just a matter of preference. Dave Mustaine needed Metallica more than they needed him, obviously. Imagine if he would have stayed in?! That would be crazy.
Xiaou2:
Ginsu, I dont know how you couldnt like Countdown. I mean, "Sweating Bullets",
"Ashes in your Mouth", "High Speed Dirt", even "Captive Honor".. all Rock hardcore.
Even the tamer stuff on it is good. Listen again, read the lyrics along with them, and rate

99 Ways to Die - Awesome song.

Like I said, there are songs I like, but the album overall doesn't do it for me. Rust in Peace is a difficult album to follow. Nothing they do will ever be as good as that album.
edit: Yeah, "99 Ways to Die" is a great song. I also love "Go to Hell"
