How to save High Scores in MAME .77??
« on: February 13, 2010, 11:39:30 pm »
My computer hard drive in my MAME cabinet crashed and I lost all my configurations.  I set it all up years ago, and so I've forgotten what you have to do to save the high scores in games.  I was thinking there was an .ini entry or something.  Right now every time I exit a game, the high scores are reset.

That other thread looks like its for new versions.

You need the "hi" folder, but you also need a file named highscore.dat in your MAME folder.
If you can't find it via google, drop me a PM and I'll send it. I have the .84 version, but I think it will work with your setup.

I believe some needed NVRAM folder.
create folders

hi
nvram

then put hiscore.dat in mame folder.

v.77 should have support for saving.

I already have a 'hi' folder and an 'nvram' folder in my MAME folder.  I have a hiscore.dat file that is blank in my MAME folder.  This is still not saving my hi scores.  I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.  This used to work so I know it's possible.  I don't have to reference something in an ini file?  I could've sworn I had to modify some ini file for it to work or something like that.

Ensure that the autosave state is disabled as it overwrites the hiscore routine and eventually enable the hiscore support if disabled.

Options > Default Game Options... > Miscellaneous

Uncheck Save game state on exit
Check Enable hiscore support

BINGO!!  That worked!  I had a copy of the hiscore.dat file on another PC and copied it over and now my Elevator Action hi score is saved so I think that did it!  Thanks a lot!!!
