Cannot get my monitor or marquee to power up. Something wrong?

helpmebuild:

I just tried to follow the schematic from The Real Bob Roberts to get my cab wired up properly but am having absolutely no luck. On top of my wiring issues, my hard drive that was complete and ready to go just fell and broke so I am far from pleasant right now. I took some pics and was hoping someone, anyone could help me with this.

One thing I wasn't sure of is if the Gnd +5 -5 and -12 wires coming out from the JAMMA board need to be ran to the power switching supply or not? Also I haven't connected the AC Switch as per the diagram because I don;t want to use that switch and only want to power everything on or off from my power bar - is that whats causing this issue? When I plug the sucker in I get absolutely nothing...no marquee light, no picture, no anything.

If ANYONE could help I could really use it. If I don't get this thing powered up soon and see some sort of result I'm really going to be at my wits end.

Thanks in advance!

Yes you have to wire your Jamma harness into the switching power supply. Take a PC or monitor power chord, chop the female end off, strip wires and wire it into the power supplies connectors for the AC 115. Then you can plug the male end into your powers strip and use the power strip as your on/off.
For your Marquee to light up you have to supply your light fixture +12V so wire it into your switching power supply to fix that.
As far as the rest of your stuff - kind of a mess and hard to tell what's doing what. I assume you're monitor needs an ISO but for now:
1.) Get your switching power supply wired up and connected to the power strip
2.) Wire in Marquee to power supply +12
3.) Check the +5 output BEFORE you connect game PCB - adjust if necessary
4.) Wire in Jamma Harness to power supply - PAY ATTENTION and PUT +5, -5 and +12 where they need to go. (You screw this up and it could cost you a board set)
5.) Connect game PCB and you should hear it play blind
6.) Then work on getting your ISO wired in and working for your monitor.

You are missing a wire from the empty lug on the line filter to the distribution block. That is where Bob recommends the switch be wired. You may not want a switch, but I guarantee you want a connection if you want power.

You definitely need to run the +5, -5, +12 and Ground from the JAMMA harness to the power supply.

Deadly: Why would you run 12V to the marquee ?

EDIT: The monitor looks like it has a ground -- do you have any documentation for it ?

Life Savers!!! I haven't yet tried the advice but I am really getting a feel for what needs to be done, and a little hope was all I needed to keep this thing going.

Chef I am curious though...as the JAMMA I have shows two (2) +5 wires, which of these two am I to wire to the power switching supply? Does it matter?

Also, I don't have any documentation for the monitor...why do you ask? I thought I did when it was the original Wells Gardner but it looks like it was replaced with an RCA during its life in the arcade circut.

Thanks again so much!

EDIT - *I also forgot to mention that I am using a JPAC...does this matter in the case of running the JAMMA harness cables labeled +5, -5 and +12 to the power supply?*

CheffoJeffo:

Run all 4 +5 (pins C,D,3,4), all 4 Ground (pins A,B,1,2), both -5 (E,5) and both -12 (F,6) wires from the JAMMA harness to the switcher. I've never seen a board that I can think of where the pads weren't common to the appropriate pins in the harness, but I always wire all of them.

I asked about the monitor because I've only ever had two monitors that had a ground (green wire) running in and neither of those required an isolation transformer. RCA may be referring to the tube. If you can take a picture of the monitor chassis (the circuit board), perhaps someone can identify it. Alternatively, check the myriad of stickers and look for a model number (likely starts with WG and includes four numeric digits).

Or you can check Bob's Monitor ID Page to see if you can match your chassis.
