Button diameters...

I'm planning to CNC some control panels for my cocktail cabinet and was wondering whether the diameter of the holes required for Happ/clones and Sanwa/Seimitsu/clones were the same?

I (think) the holes have to be 29mm in diameter for Happ-style buttons but is this the same for Sanwa-style?

Franco B:

Happ/clones require 1 1/8" which is 28.575. You can get away with a 28mm Forstner etc bit if you were drilling them in a wood panel but they can be a little tight.

Sanwa/Seimitsu action buttons require a 30mm hole.

If you are getting them CNC routed/milled I imagine the holes will be circle interpolated so if you are using Happ buttons (why?  :D) get them cut 28.5mm or 30mm for Seimitsu/Sanwa.

You can mount a Happ button in a Sanwa/Seimitsu hole but not vice versa.

Note both button styles have a 33mm outer bezel so they take up the same space on the top side of the panel.

Cheers Franco...

Yeah, I wasn't sure... Sanwas/Seimitsus crap all over Happ-style in my books but then I want sympathetic aesthetics and Happs look more 'retro' if you will. Also, I don't think you can player 1 and 2-style Sanwa/Seimitsu-style buttons can you?

So, from this 30mm holes would be best - can fit either that way...

I'm going to ask my mate if he can CNC me 4 metal plates (clones of the originals but with more button holes/different layout) - you may ask 4? Well, sets of 2 (for 2 players) then one design for home use (designed by myself) - so something arcade-y and nice-looking and also, some for office/studio use - so perhaps branded by us, advertising the business, incorporating our logo, etc... and with a credit button perhaps as we won't be able to charge customers otherwise we'll run into licensing trouble!
