nice find! :P

i think someone needs to start a list here of all freeware, cab worthy games (i can think of 2, but don't know the name of the second one - first is that 3D lightcycles game, and the second is a 3d version of the classic snake game (you know the one, you eat a pill, you grow slightly longer))

 8)

EDIT:
pretty certain i downloaded both of them from http://www.megagames.com/ - tons of freeware games there!

I also say: "Good find!" I don't think I've played a better top-down shooter than starmonkey - talk about amazing glow effects -  I fired this bad boy up on the cab and the d9200 and it's just awesome - the sound effects really grabbed me, too.  I definitely have found a new obsession with these newer 3d space shooters :D   i'll have to check out their other games, too...

I posted this in a different post, but could be worth it to include in this thread:

Thanks for the link Frostillicus(ahh moonpies). I found a pretty cool one on there for people who like asteroids. It controls the same but you duel against a second player. Try it out. It's called Final Duel Deathmatch Arena. Here's the link.

One of my personal favorites has always been Maelstrom (an asteroids ripoff).  In my opinion it was the only reason that the Macintosh should have been left alive...  but now that it's open source and ported to Windows...  go ahead and burn the macs!  BURN THEM ALL!!!

Anyway, it's very fun with lots of weapons upgrades etc... cool graphics and sounds... and it's old too!

Unfortunately I don't think it'll run full screen, but at 640x480 it's pretty good.

FDDA is like that but it give you the option to have up to 4 players at once (great for those with 4P cabinets) and you can destroy both the asteroids and the other ships. Try it out if you get a chance.

Whee, that's a cool one! I'm feeling total crazy now! ::)

Just tested it on my desktop, we really must suggest the author to make it cab-friendly -he needs to add credits and start-button support, and something to type in the name without a keyboard :)

Armagetron is an oldie, but still a lot of fun.  It's a 3D Tron lightcycle game.  It supposedly supports network play, but I've never tried out that feature.

Wow, it *is* gorgeous.  Take a look at the scripts directory.  All the levels are completely written in the Lua scripting language.  Very interesting.

All those lightcycle games have one or two unique features that are cool...if only they could combine them all into one really great game.

I'm just praying the lightcycle racing game in TRON 2.0 doesn't suck....I have high hopes for it  ;)

Just thought I would add one.  Stepmania looks like DDR and has skins.  Add a PS to PC USB converter to your PS dance pad and you have a mini DDR setup.

One game i was looking forward to playing was a fun dos game called Liero. It's like worms except in real time.

The only problem is, that to dig, you need to press right and left at the same time, which of course is not possible with a joystick.

I've been playing the Think Tanks Demo on my cab
The online play is pretty fun. It's a 3D combat style game.

It's not real cab friendly because I see no way to re-map the keys, but it uses arrows for moving and mouse for aiming and shooting so it works well on my cab with the trackball.

The demo version does require you to enter a player name each time you fire it up so you will need a keyboard accessible.

you can download the demo here

www.garagegames.com

They have other games that may be fun on a cab also.
Most of their games have mac & Linux versions also.

Wow...Mutant Storm is great.

Does it work with a spinner or does it require a trackball?

If it does work with a spinner can you get two-player going with two spinners on one control panel?

(I can't test this myself....yet)

I run Mutant Storm using my player 1 and 2 joysticks. 1 for movement the other for firing. Works real well. Only problem is the game is so damn hard.

Anyone out there still have a copy of Decent I II or III to try?

Wow...Mutant Storm is great.

Does it work with a spinner or does it require a trackball?

It's a dual-joystick game like Robotron -- 1 joystick to move, 1 to fire.

As a Robotron junkie, I love this game. My Robotron blisters are back...  :o

Hey Kevin while you're here. Do you know any way I can get a pair of those cupholders you have on your cabinet. I've been unable to find anything local or online?
